Spatial Intelligence & Resource Planner

TWK Agri has the following vacancy available: Spatial Intelligence & Resource Planner within the Timber division at Piet Retief / Nelspruit, Mpumalanga.

Job Summary

This role involves managing, analysing and interpreting spatial and operational data to support forestry operations, resource planning, timber traceability and compliance. The position transforms spatial and field data into accurate maps, reports and actionable insights to support operational and strategic decision-making. The role also provides GIS support to stakeholders, contributes to forecasting and operational planning, and supports the effective and sustainable management of forestry resources.

Responsibilities and Duties

• Process, analyse, and model GIS data to support forestry operations and planning
• Compile, organise, integrate, and maintain spatial data from various sources
• Convert mapping resources into standardised digital formats
• Digitise and validate spatial data from aerial photography and satellite imagery
• Perform spatial analysis and modelling to support operational and strategic decision-making
• Ensure the accuracy, integrity, and completeness of spatial datasets through quality assurance and control processes
• Manage the storage, version control, and distribution of spatial information
• Identify data discrepancies and implement corrective actions where required
• Produce high-quality maps and spatial products for operational, management, and client use
• Generate GIS reports, dashboards, and customised spatial information products
• Present spatial insights in a clear and user-friendly format
• Support decision-making through visualisation, reporting, and spatial intelligence solutions
• Provide GIS support and technical assistance to internal and external stakeholders
• Respond to GIS-related queries and information requests
• Promote GIS capabilities and assist in the development and utilisation of GIS products
• Provide guidance and training on GIS outputs and spatial information where required
• Coordinate and support the collection of field data for spatial analysis and validation
• Integrate field data into GIS systems and databases
• Ensure alignment between field observations and spatial records
• Maintain and monitor timber information and traceability records
• Ensure accurate tracking and reporting of timber from plantation to destination
• Support compliance with internal procedures, certification requirements, and applicable legislation
• Assist with the recording, validation, and management of data throughout the forestry value chain, including harvesting, transport, processing, and related supply chain activities
• Support forestry resource planning, forecasting, and operational planning through spatial analysis and data-driven insights

Qualifications and Skills

• Matric / Grade 12
• Tertiary qualification in GIS, Geography, Forestry, or a related field
• Relevant field experience in spatial data collection, mapping, or GIS-related activities
• Proficiency in GIS software (e.g. ArcGIS, QGIS, or similar)
• Minimum 3 years' experience in a relevant environment involving the sourcing, processing, and management of spatial data
• Experience in the forestry, agriculture, or environmental sectors (advantageous)
• Exposure to spatial data collection and mapping projects (advantageous)
• Spatial data processing, digitising, and analysis skills
• Map production and cartographic design skills
• Data accuracy, validation, and quality control skill
• Data management and reporting skills
• Strong problem-solving and analytical abilities
• Ability to work under pressure
• Ability to work independently
• Basic understanding of forestry and/or farming practices (advantageous)
• Valid Driver's License (Code 08)
• Willingness to travel
• Bilingual (English & Afrikaans) (advantageous)
