Job description

Job Purpose

Provide advanced technical expertise and specialist support for the Hybrid SQL Database platform across on-premises, private cloud, and public cloud environments. Contribute to platform architecture, engineering standards, modernization initiatives, automation, resilience, security, and performance improvements. Support the adoption of cloud-native database technologies, DevOps, Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC), and platform engineering practices while providing technical guidance, operational support, and subject matter expertise to engineering teams and stakeholders.

Job Responsibilities

Contribute to the evolution and implementation of the Hybrid SQL Database platform roadmap.
Support the development and adoption of SQL engineering standards, patterns, reference architectures, and best practices.
Participate in modernization initiatives including cloud migration, automation, platform transformation, and technical debt remediation.
Provide specialist expertise on Azure SQL, SQL Managed Instance, Platform-as-a-Service, and related database technologies.
Assist with the implementation of Infrastructure-as-Code, configuration management, and automated deployment practices.
Contribute to database automation, self-service capabilities, API integrations, and Database-as-a-Service initiatives.
Research emerging technologies and provide technical recommendations to support platform and business objectives.
Support platform performance, scalability, availability, recoverability, and resiliency improvements.
Collaborate with architects, cloud engineers, cybersecurity teams, and product teams to align database solutions with enterprise standards.
Contribute to observability, monitoring, telemetry, and proactive health management practices.
Participate in technical reviews, design assurance activities, and implementation quality assessments.
Support disaster recovery, business continuity, compliance, and security requirements across database environments.
Provide expert technical support and escalation assistance for complex database and platform issues.
Mentor and coach engineers and database administrators within the SQL domain.
Contribute to DevOps, CI/CD, automation, and engineering productivity initiatives.
Participate in proof-of-concepts, technology evaluations, and innovation activities.
Conduct knowledge-sharing and technical enablement sessions.
Support the achievement of business strategy, objectives, and values.
Contribute to Nedbank culture-building initiatives.
Participate in corporate responsibility initiatives aligned to business objectives.
Identify opportunities to improve processes, systems, and ways of working through agile thinking. Essential Qualifications - NQF Level

Matric / Grade 12 / National Senior Certificate
Advanced Diplomas/National 1st Degrees Essential Certifications

Cloud fundamentals
SQL and/or other database certifications
Cloud Database related certification (AWS and/or Azure) - Advantage Minimum Experience Level

Min 5 IT Experience
3 years experience in Database Administration Technical / Professional Knowledge

SQL, PostgreSQL and MongoDB, MongoDB Atlas
