Why You’ll Love This Role
We are looking for a highly organized and customer-focused Stops Compliance Agent to join our Customs team. Responsible for liaison with Customs authorities and Other Government Authorities (OGA) for processing of any additional paperwork, thus ensuring timeous release of shipments detained for OGA or stopped for physical examination or desk audit.
What you’ll own
- Serve as the primary liaison between DHL and the Customs Authorities, managing daily Customs-related escalations across multiple divisions.
- Ensure all inbound shipments are processed in full compliance with national Customs regulations, DHL Global SOPs, and ISO standards.
- Analyse Customs EDI responses and take prompt corrective action to resolve complex shipment detentions and Customs queries.
- Maintain proactive communication with customers regarding detained or stopped shipments, ensuring exceptional customer service and timely updates.
- Accurately calculate, communicate, collect, and process all applicable Customs penalties and related charges.
- Prepare and distribute daily productivity and performance reports, providing stakeholders with visibility of priority and high-risk cases.
- Manage the complete lifecycle of Customs stop cases, from case creation and verification through to final release and closure.
- Coordinate manual shipment releases with the ACA team to ensure seamless movement of shipments through the DHL network.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date system records, ensuring shipment information is captured correctly and reflects the current status.
- Raise GEMA First Time Right (FTR) cases for all identified non-compliance incidents and coordinate daily with the Johannesburg and Cape Town Bond Stores.
- Manage outstanding and unresolved cases by coordinating deposits into the Government State Warehouse (GSWH) and ensuring all abandonment or UG documentation is submitted and uploaded for finalisation.
- Promote a culture of quality by ensuring every customer interaction delivers a first-time resolution and exceeds customer expectations.
- Maintain daily customer contacts, submissions, and system update for all OGA detains and customs stopped shipments
What we are looking for
- Matric or Diploma in related field
- Minimum of 2-3 years’ experience within customs stops role and OGA role in a Logistics industry.
- Knowledge of framing entries and adjustments would be an advantage.
- Stops/compliance background experience.
- Knowledge on how to interpret Customs responses and must have knowledge with Voucher of Corrections.
- Knowledge of high values stops
- Strong knowledge of Customs clearance processes and regulatory requirements.
