Summary:
Maintain health and safety standards in the store. This individual must have an understanding of Fire Safety, Health & Safety, Food Safety, Environmental Management, etc. This role needs to ensure that the company’s operations comply with the best environmental standards and relevant legislation within prescribed quality standards and costs.
FUNCTIONS / RESPONSIBILITIES:
Health and Safety Training Conducted
- Train all Employees know and understand the importance and implications of Safety Legislation
Emergency training conducted
- Ensure evacuations proceed smoothly, in the shortest time possible
- Train all employees to know the Evacuation procedures
Store lock/unlock rosters
- Complete the Managers’ duty roster and distribute to relevant people by 28th of each month
Communicate with staff
- Hold effective daily PDR meetings with the Risk Manager /Administration Manager. (Plan, Do, Review)
- Hold effective daily PDR meetings with staff.
- Communicated effectively with staff
Ensure that checklists are completed regularly and timeously
- Enforce and ensure the completion of the Lifting Machinery checklist (daily)
- Enforce and ensure the completion of the Health & Safety Inspection checklist (monthly)
- Enforce and ensure the completion of the Racking & Stacking checklist (daily)
- Enforce and ensure the completion of the Fire Equipment Register checklist (monthly)
- Enforce and ensure the completion of the Fire Safety Checklist (daily)
Ensure that the required meetings are held monthly with you being involved in the meetings
- Participate and contribute in monthly Health & Safety meetings
- Participate and contribute in monthly Emergency Committee meetings
- Participate and contribute in monthly First Aid meetings
- Participate and contribute in monthly Fire Fighting meetings
- Check and ensure that all relevant staff are appointed according to the Risk Division requirements
- Ensure that staff are appointed as per the Risk Division requirements
- Minutes of all meetings are taken
- Ensure all the minutes are signed by the Store Manager
Issue and control protective clothing
- Check and ensure that the necessary protective clothing is issued and controlled
- Check and ensure that all hazardous chemicals are documented in the Hazardous Chemical Handbook, Paraffin and Methylated Spirits
Ensure that staff are trained in Health and Safety /Risk
- Train staff on the following courses:
- Accident and incident investigations, First Aid, Fire Fighting and Racking & Stacking
Draw up and maintain Emergency Plan
- Check and ensure that the Emergency plan is drawn up and distributed to the relevant people
- Check and ensure that the Emergency plan is revisited periodically and updated when required
- Check and ensure that the Emergency plans displayed in strategic positions in Store.
- Arrange evacuations drills at least once every six months, to ensure knowledge of the Emergency Plan and the Evacuation procedures
- Analyse success of evacuation drill, and take corrective action where necessary
Conduct procedural audits / Assessments
- Conduct ongoing audits /assessments on all procedures and controls
- Check and ensure that follow up audits are conducted
- Give feedback to the Store Managers re: action steps required
- Know and understand store rules and procedures.
- Adhere always to store rules and procedures.
- Report suspicious looking customers to Security, or a Manager
Control costs of Health and Safety
- Check and ensure that all expenditure is controlled within budget, or an overspend is justified
- Raise expense orders prior to any expenditure
Lifting Machinery Licenses / Driver licenses
- Check and ensure that all lifting machinery operators have a valid operator’s license and a copy kept on file.
- Check and ensure all company drivers have valid driver’s licenses with no endorsements.
Minimum Academic, Professional Qualifications and Experience required for this position
Requirements:
- Matric plus Tertial Qualification
- Certificates in the Safety, Health and Environmental field
- Knowledge of Health & Safety as well as Food Safety standards and legislation.
- Sound knowledge of site environments and workflow requirements
- Sound knowledge of all store operations Policies and Procedures related
Experience:
- 2_3 years preferable in the same industry and the relevant Experience in the in a similar role
- Knowledge of Food Safety standards and legislation.
- Knowledge of environmental standards and relevant
- Knowledge in fire safety standards and legislation.
