Job description
Civil Engineer – Building Diagnostics & Maintenance
We are very excited to announce that we are looking for an experienced and passionate Civil Engineer (BSc/BEng or BTech Civil Engineering) to join our team. The ideal candidate will assess existing buildings, identify the technical issues affecting them, and report on the root cause and the solutions needed to address it. The role covers all civil engineering aspects of buildings — structural, waterproofing, drainage, and more — and sometimes beyond. We're looking for someone with a genuine passion for problem-solving and the patience to explain technical issues and solutions clearly to non-technical clients.
Responsibilities
- Inspect existing buildings to identify defects and assess their condition
- Determine the root cause of technical issues (not just the visible symptom) and propose practical, cost-effective solutions
- Prepare clear, client-facing engineering and defect reports
- Undertake design work for remedial solutions (approximately 5% of workload)
- Explain technical findings and recommendations to laymen, clients, and managing agents in plain language
- Liaise with clients, contractors, and other project stakeholders as required
- Be lekker
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or BTech in Civil Engineering
- Registered with ECSA (Pr Eng or Pr Tech Eng), or a Candidate Engineer/Technician close to registration — registration required within a maximum of one year of appointment
- Around 7 years' experience, specifically in building defects, diagnostics, and maintenance-related work
- Knowledge of typical building defects and their root causes across civil engineering disciplines
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate technical issues into plain language
- Patience and a genuine interest in solving varied, sometimes unusual, technical problems
- PhD in being lekker
Interview process
Step 1 – Review our website and social media platforms and submit a motivation for why you want to work for us (send mail to philip@naba.co.za). Any candidates that submit CVs during Step 1 will automatically be eliminated.
Step 2 – Successful candidates will be requested to submit CVs.
Step 3 – Successful candidates will be invited for a 2-round interview process, during which technical questions will be asked to test understanding of building defects, root-cause diagnosis, and reporting.
The application for the position will close by 16/10/2026 and the successful candidate will start by 01/12/2026.
Good luck and let the games begin
