Position Overview

We are seeking a qualified and experienced Professional Structural Engineer or Professional Structural Engineering Technologist to join our team in Cape Town. The successful candidate will lead and support the planning, detailed structural design, and contract administration of diverse building and civil engineering projects from inception to completion.

Key Responsibilities1. Technical & Design Execution

• Lead the planning, detailed structural design, and contract administration of building and engineering projects through all stages.
• Prepare rigorous engineering calculations, technical specifications, and capital/operating cost estimates.
• Carry out structural condition assessments and draft detailed engineering assessment reports.
• Ensure full compliance with relevant design engineering codes and technical standards.

2. Project & Team Leadership

• Work independently while leading internal project teams of designers, intermediate/junior engineers, and draughtspersons.
• Review and evaluate technical work produced by junior staff and actively contribute to the continuing professional development (CPD) of unregistered technical personnel.
• Manage and quality-check design deliverables (calculations, drawings, schedules, and reports) to ensure high quality, on-time delivery, and adherence to project budgets.

3. Site, Contract & Stakeholder Administration

• Prepare comprehensive tender documents and project reports (e.g., Inception, Concept & Viability, Design, Tender Evaluation, Progress, Financial, and Close-Out reports).
• Manage day-to-day contract administration for structural works on site.
• Lead site and technical meetings, resolve technical queries, handle dispute resolutions in conjunction with project stakeholders, and ensure accurate minute-taking.
• Maintain frequent, clear communication with clients, contractors, and multidisciplinary professional teams.
• Assist with managing project safety and environmental compliance during construction.
• Perform general office and project-related administrative duties.

Requirements & Qualifications

• Education: Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering (BSc / BEng / BTech) with a strong emphasis on structural engineering.
• Professional Registration: Active registration with ECSA as a Professional Engineer (Pr Eng) or Professional Engineering Technologist (Pr Tech Eng).
• Experience: Minimum 2 years of verifiable post-registration experience in structural engineering design and contract administration from inception to close-out.
• Software Proficiency:
• Design & Analysis: Proficient in Prokon or MasterSeries.
• Project & Office Management: Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and Microsoft Project.
• Advantageous: Experience with BIM and design software, specifically Autodesk Construction Cloud (ACC Docs / ACC Build), Revit, and AutoCAD.
• Specialized Infrastructure Experience (Advantageous):
• Strong technical background in reinforced concrete framed structures and structural steelwork.
• Experience with water-retaining structures, bulk water reservoirs, water treatment works, and stormwater management infrastructure.
• Personal & Professional Attributes:
• Strong client-focus and willingness to take full ownership of projects.
• Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
• Licensing & Mobility:
• Valid South African Driver’s License.
• Own reliable transport.
