EXPERIENCED STRUCTURAL WELDER REQUIRED – PRETORIA

We are looking for an experienced Structural / Construction Welder to join our construction and maintenance team based in Pretoria.

This position is for a hands-on, hard-working welder with proven experience in structural steel, construction, repairs and on-site maintenance.

THIS IS NOT A WORKSHOP-ONLY POSITION. You must be comfortable working on construction sites, outdoors and at heights where required.

MAIN DUTIES:

Structural steel welding and repairs
Welding beams, columns, channels, brackets, plates and structural components
Steel fabrication and modifications
On-site welding and repairs
Installation and repair of steel structures
Canopy construction and repairs
Roof structure repairs
Welding brackets, supports and frames
Cutting, grinding, drilling and preparation of steel
Repairing damaged or corroded steel components
Measuring, cutting, fitting and assembling steel components
Working from measurements, drawings and site instructions
General construction and building maintenance where required

WELDING EXPERIENCE:

Applicants must have proven practical welding experience and must be competent in:

ARC / Stick welding
MIG welding
Structural steel welding
Cutting and grinding
Preparing joints and steel surfaces before welding
Tack welding and final welding
Measuring and accurately positioning components
Safe use and maintenance of welding equipment

A recognised welding qualification/certificate will be highly advantageous.

STRUCTURAL & SITE EXPERIENCE:

Preference will be given to candidates with experience in:

Structural steel construction
Steel erection
Beams, columns and channels
Canopies and roofing structures
Industrial maintenance
Building maintenance
On-site fabrication
Rigging and lifting operations
Petroleum / fuel station construction and maintenance

WORKING AT HEIGHTS:

Working at Heights experience is strongly preferred as a significant amount of our structural work involves canopies, roofs and elevated steel structures.

Preference will be given to applicants with:

Valid Working at Heights (WAH) certificate
Valid medical fitness certificate for Working at Heights
Fall Arrest training
Rigging experience/certification
Scaffold experience/certification

TOOLS & EQUIPMENT:

Applicants must be competent in the safe use of:

Welding machines
Large and small angle grinders
Cutting equipment
Portable drills
Hammer drills
Impact tools
Air compressors
General construction power tools
Measuring equipment
Clamps and vice grips
Ratchets and sockets
General hand tools

IMPORTANT: Shortlisted candidates may be required to complete a practical welding test to demonstrate their ability.

ZERO TOLERANCE FOR UNSAFE BEHAVIOUR OR DISREGARD OF SAFETY PROCEDURES.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Minimum 5 years' practical welding experience
Proven structural / construction welding experience
Competent in ARC / Stick welding
Experience with steel fabrication and structural repairs
Ability to measure, cut, fit and weld accurately
Competent with grinders, drills and construction power tools
Physically fit and capable of construction-site work
Strictly sober habits
Reliable, punctual and hard-working
Prepared to work additional hours when projects require it
Must live in or around the PRETORIA AREA
Must have valid South African documentation and proof of address

ADVANTAGEOUS:

Recognised welding qualification/certificate
Working at Heights certification
Medical fitness for Working at Heights
Rigging certification/experience
Scaffolding certification
Fall Arrest certification
Structural Steel Erection experience
Petroleum / fuel station industry experience
