About the Role
We are looking for experienced South Africa-based English Language Teaching (ELT) Content Developers and Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to develop, edit, review and localise Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) aligned English-language learning materials for international learners across print and digital platforms.
This role is ideal for someone who combines English-language teaching expertise with hands-on content development and editorial experience.
You should have a strong understanding of Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) and English Language Teaching (ELT) or Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) teaching approaches, know how to develop content for learners at different levels of English proficiency, and be comfortable working with digital and AI-assisted content-development tools.
Experience developing or localising ELT materials for international markets, particularly Saudi Arabia (KSA) and/or Italy, would be a strong advantage.
Who Should Apply
We would particularly like to hear from:
- ELT/EFL/ESL content developers, writers and editors.
- English-language teachers or lecturers who have moved into content, curriculum or materials development.
- TESOL/TEFL specialists with hands-on learning-content development experience.
- ELT publishing professionals with experience developing print or digital learning materials.
- Curriculum developers or instructional designers specialising in English-language learning.
- ELT professionals working in EdTech, educational publishing, universities, language-learning organisations or freelance content development.
You do not need to have followed one specific career path. What matters most is your ELT expertise, CEFR knowledge and proven experience developing high-quality English-language learning content.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, write, edit and review CEFR-aligned (A1–C2) English-language learning content.
- Create engaging activities across reading, writing, listening and speaking.
- Develop and review grammar, vocabulary, comprehension and assessment activities.
- Apply sound ELT/TESOL principles, including communicative, task-based and learner-centred approaches.
- Adapt and localise content for different countries, cultures and learner needs.
- Ensure content is accurate, engaging and appropriate for the intended CEFR level.
- Use AI-assisted tools to support content development and critically review and improve AI-generated outputs.
- Work with editors, instructional designers, other SMEs and project teams to deliver high-quality content on time.
- Respond to editorial and client feedback and make revisions where required.
Must Have
- 2–5+ years of relevant ELT content development, publishing, curriculum development and/or English-language teaching experience.
- A relevant degree in English, Applied Linguistics, Education, TESOL or a related field.
- Proven experience writing, developing, editing or reviewing ELT learning materials.
- Content or curriculum development experience with an educational publisher, publishing group, EdTech organisation or established language-learning provider.
- Strong practical knowledge of CEFR levels A1-C2, including the ability to pitch vocabulary, grammar, reading complexity and learning activities at the correct learner level.
- Experience developing or localising ELT content for international markets.
- Experience with Saudi Arabia (KSA) and/or Italy is particularly valuable.
- Experience scripting audio/video dialogues and reviewing appropriate audio-visual assets is a plus.
- Strong understanding of ELT/TESOL teaching and learning principles.
- Excellent English writing, editing and quality-review skills.
- Ability to work independently in a remote, project-based environment, manage deadlines and respond positively to editorial feedback.
- Confidence using digital tools and willingness to use, review and improve AI-assisted content.
Highly Desirable
- A recognised ELT/TESOL qualification, such as CELTA, Delta, Trinity or an equivalent South African/international qualification.
- A relevant postgraduate qualification in Applied Linguistics, Education, TESOL, English or a related field.
- Experience developing both print and digital learning materials.
- Experience with EdTech, educational publishing, language-learning platforms or digital content-development environments.
- Media Sourcing & Scripting: Experience scripting audio/video dialogues and reviewing culturally appropriate audio-visual assets is a plus.
The Person We Are Looking For
In simple terms, we're looking for someone who thinks like an English-language teacher, content developer and editor.
You understand how people learn English, know how to develop content at the right CEFR level, and can turn sound ELT principles into clear, engaging learning experiences.
You are comfortable working with international audiences, have a strong eye for quality and detail, and are willing to use AI as a tool while applying your own subject-matter expertise and judgement to the final content.
⚠️ PLEASE NOTE
Applications without clear evidence of mandatory experience requirements will unfortunately not be considered.
