Job Purpose:

The purpose of this role is to provide high-quality postgraduate supervision to Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) candidates in Education, ensuring that students are guided academically and methodologically towards the successful completion of their doctoral research. The supervisor will support candidates throughout the research process, uphold academic integrity, ensure compliance with institutional and regulatory requirements, and contribute to scholarly output through research development and publication.

Duties & Responsibilities:

• Supervise PhD candidates in Education from proposal development through to final thesis submission and examination.
• Provide academic and methodological guidance to ensure research is original, rigorous, and aligned with doctoral-level standards.
• Support candidates in developing research proposals, literature reviews, theoretical and conceptual frameworks, and research instruments.
• Guide students in research design, data collection, analysis, interpretation, and academic writing in line with institutional requirements.
• Provide guidance on appropriate qualitative, quantitative, and/or mixed-methods research approaches where applicable.
• Monitor student progress against agreed timelines and milestones, ensuring timely completion of research deliverables.
• Provide structured and constructive feedback on research proposals, drafts, chapters, and other research outputs.
• Maintain appropriate supervision records and student progress reports.
• Ensure compliance with institutional research policies, ethical requirements, and academic integrity standards.
• Support candidates in preparing research for publication, conferences, and other scholarly dissemination opportunities.
• Participate in postgraduate academic processes, including proposal evaluations, research committees, examiner engagement, and quality assurance activities.
• Contribute to the development and strengthening of postgraduate research and supervision practices within the Education discipline.

Minimum Requirements:

• A Doctorate (PhD) in Education or a closely related Education discipline.
• Minimum of 3–5 years' experience in higher education teaching and learning, with demonstrated expertise in educational research methodologies and methods
• Demonstrable research supervision experience at NQF Level 9 and/or Level 10, preferably within Education or a related field.
• A research and publication record is ideally required.
• Experience in postgraduate research supervision and/or doctoral research development will be advantageous.

Working Hours:

Flexible, based on supervision requirements and student consultation schedules. Hours will be agreed upon in line with institutional needs.

Salary:

Market related.
