Job description
SUPPLY CHAIN MANAGER
Overall Job Purpose:
Accountable for the supply chain function of Starbucks, manage warehousing and logistics through monitoring compliance and execution of SLAs of external service providers. Responsible for the procurement of all Starbucks’ products and services to the exact brand specification, at competitive rates, and within the specified lead times.
Key Areas of Responsibilities
Supply chain management
- Oversee inventory management and ensure the most cost-effective solution for the business is implemented and adhered to
- Oversee logistics and distribution and ensure most cost-effective and optimal end-to-end execution
- Responsible and accountable for service provider performance against targets and SLA
- Collaborate with the service provider to reduce costs and to improve service delivery to stores
- Ensure service provider complies to service, quality and other standards/requirements in lin with global brand guidelines
- Proactively engage with the service provider to identify and solve any issues, concerns or conflicts
Procurement
- Responsible and accountable for all procurement in Brand (including store level procurement)
- Identify and select suppliers to procure highly technical commodities meeting criteria of price, quality, quantity, availability and delivery dates and negotiate favourable supplier agreements
- Consolidate purchasing to achieve maximum benefit, and ensure that group buying deals are used
- Plan, negotiate and execute national contracts, ensuring the best quality, service and costs enabling our store network to be the most competitive and successful
- Manage and develop the supplier portfolio in accordance with agreed strategy, taking into account performance, risk and the need to maintain a competitive environment
- Ensure quality of products are aligned with global Brand standards
- Inform stores of all relevant information (or changes), major price movements, delivery lead times and individual supply situations
Planning
- Accountable for accurate demand planning in Starbucks
- Oversee day-to-day demand planning activities
- Ensure service provider has up-to-date and accurate planning forecasts
- Collaborate with marketing and operations on campaigns, product launches and development
- Monitor forecast and quotas to identify changes and predict effects on supply chain activities
Quality assurance
- Work closely with Starbucks QA and Food Safety function to ensure all products and services comply with South African law and Starbucks Global Standards.
- Ensure suppliers meet audit requirements dictated by Starbucks QA and Food Safety function.
Marketing
- Collaborate with the marketing function to study and analyse markets, consumer trends etc. to make recommendations of possible changes which would represent savings without detracting from quality requirements
External stakeholders
- Build and maintain beneficial relationships with suppliers, explore and cultivate new sources for suppliers and products
- Develop contacts with each supplier in all relevant areas (i.e. sales and technical) for special requests/assistance when needed
- Review and update supplier information (products, prices, service level agreements etc.)
- Maintain supplier rating process and achieve continuous improvements in supplier performance in all areas of the business relationship
Finance
- Contribute to the achievement of annual saving goals (i.e. reduce costs, eliminate processes and system costs, negotiate group / volume deals, collaborate with external service provider to identify cost reduction opportunities)
- Track and monitor commodities and other cost drivers to identify risks and opportunities
- Limit financial exposure for product tests and limited time promotions
- Provide market forecasts and commodity-driven categories to enable financial benefits from cost avoidance purchasing strategies
- Provide supply forecasts and planning
- Maintain and update the pricing database
- Safeguard company assets (working capital and fixed assets)
Reporting and communication
- Accurate and timely reporting of all scheduled and requested category data to all levels of internal management
- Communicate market changes, cost changes and upcoming promotions to supply chain, product management, finance and inventory management
- Effectively communicate all programme details from top down according to established guidelines, policies and protocols
Policies and procedures
- Develop functional policies, procedures and practices (in collaboration with the finance function and Operations)
- Implement, interpret, explain, maintain and adhere to functional policies, procedures, practices, templates and forms
Risk management
- Contribute to improvements in the functioning of the Brand’s risk management and control systems
- Plan, direct and coordinate risk and insurance programmes to mitigate risk and losses
- Prepare operational or risk reports for management analysis
- Ensure adequate controls are in place to mitigate material risks
Desired Experience & Qualification
Bachelor’s degree in supply chain management, Logistics, or Business Management
- Minimum 5–8 years’ experience in supply chain or logistics operations
