We have an exciting opportunity for Supply Chain Optimisation Advisor. The purpose of this role is to support the optimisation of end-to-end supply chain processes through analysis, reporting, continuous improvement initiatives, stakeholder collaboration and the implementation of optimisation projects.

Kumba Iron Ore

We produce high-grade iron ore, the key component in steel widely used in construction and manufacturing across the world. Our activities include all aspects – exploration; mining; processing and blending; shipping; marketing and selling. In South Africa, we have mining operations in the Northern Cape province, as well as a head office in Rosebank, Gauteng, and a port operation in Saldanha Bay, Western Cape.

Job Description

As our Supply Chain Optimisation Advisor your responsibilities will include but not limited to:

  • Adhere to all safety, health and environmental standards and procedures.

Supply Chain Optimisation Initiatives

  • Assist in identifying opportunities to improve supply chain efficiency, cost management and service performance.
  • Gather and analyse operational supply chain data to support optimisation projects.
  • Support the implementation of approved optimisation initiatives across procurement, logistics, warehousing and inventory management processes.
  • Monitor project progress and provide status updates against agreed deliverables and timelines.
  • Track benefits realised from optimisation initiatives and report on outcomes.

Process Analysis and Improvement

  • Analyse current supply chain processes to identify bottlenecks, inefficiencies and improvement opportunities.
  • Develop process maps, workflow documentation and standard operating procedures.
  • Support root cause analysis and problem-solving activities to address operational challenges.
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives aimed at increasing efficiency and reducing waste.

Data Analytics and Reporting

  • Compile and analyse operational and supply chain performance information.
  • Develop and maintain dashboards and reports that support decision-making.
  • Monitor key supply chain performance metrics including inventory levels, supplier performance, logistics performance and demand variability.
  • Provide analytical insights and recommendations to support optimisation decisions.
  • Ensure the accuracy and integrity of supply chain data used for reporting and analysis.

Technology and Digital Enablement

  • Support the implementation and adoption of supply chain systems, tools and digital solutions.
  • Assist with testing and validating system enhancements and process improvements.
  • Support data extraction, cleansing and analysis activities required for optimisation initiatives.
  • Promote effective utilisation of available supply chain technologies and reporting tools.
  • Assist in maintaining master data quality to support effective supply chain planning and execution.

Supplier and Business Collaboration

  • Engage with internal stakeholders to understand operational requirements and improvement opportunities.
  • Assist in gathering supplier performance information and supporting supplier review processes.
  • Coordinate communication between supply chain functions and operational teams during optimisation projects.
  • Support cross-functional collaboration to ensure alignment of improvement initiatives.

Support Risk Management

  • Monitor and report supply chain risks that may impact performance and continuity.
  • Support contingency planning activities and mitigation initiatives.
  • Assist with the collection of data required for risk assessments and scenario analysis.
  • Escalate emerging risks and disruptions for appropriate action.

Sustainable Supply Chain Practices

  • Assist in monitoring sustainability and ESG-related supply chain initiatives.
  • Collect and report relevant sustainability performance data.
  • Support initiatives aimed at responsible sourcing, waste reduction and operational efficiency.
  • Ensure optimisation activities align with organisational sustainability objectives.

Contractor and Service Provider Performance

  • Support the monitoring of contractor and service provider performance against agreed KPIs.
  • Compile contractor performance data and assist with performance reviews.
  • Escalate non-compliance or performance concerns for action.
  • Maintain contractor performance records and reporting requirements.

Measure and Report Performance

  • Monitor supply chain KPIs and identify performance trends.
  • Prepare routine performance reports and presentations.

  • Support the maintenance of dashboards and performance scorecards.
  • Assist with benchmarking activities to identify opportunities for improvement.

Compliance

  • Comply with all company policies, procedures and governance requirements.
  • Support compliance monitoring within supply chain processes.
  • Ensure optimisation activities are conducted in accordance with procurement, legal and regulatory requirements.
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation for audit purposes.

This role is in Supply Chain NC department on a Band 6 (D-Upper) level reporting to the Principal Supply Chain Optimisation.

Qualifications

  • Grade 12 Certificate
  • National Diploma in Supply Chain/Logistics Management/Procurement/Information Management or a relevant discipline on NQF6.
  • A Bachelors Degree in Supply Chain/Logistics Management/Procurement or a relevant discipline on NQF7 is preferred
  • SA Drivers Licence

Technical Knowledge

  • 3–5 years of relevant supply chain experience with sound knowledge of end-to-end supply chain processes, optimisation principles and operational performance improvement.
  • Understanding of supply chain planning, logistics, warehousing, inventory management and procurement processes.
  • Understanding of supply chain analytics, performance measurement and KPI management.
  • Familiarity with digital supply chain tools, reporting platforms and data visualisation techniques.
  • Knowledge of business process mapping, root cause analysis and problem-solving methodologies.
  • Understanding of supply chain risk management principles and business continuity concepts.
  • Understanding of stakeholder engagement and cross-functional collaboration within a supply chain environment.
