Systems & Infrastructure Technician

Key Responsibilities:-

1. Physical & Virtual Server Management

Provide comprehensive hardware and software technical support for the physical and virtual server fleet.

Perform all necessary system configurations, changes, and patches.

Maintain and optimize the logical server environment to support municipal operations.

Proactively monitor system performance; identify, recommend, and report any anomalies or performance bottlenecks.

Ensure all servers are kept UpToDate with the latest security patches and firmware updates.

2. Storage Area Network (SAN) Management

Manage storage capacity, forecasting future needs and optimizing current allocation.

Provide hardware and software technical support for SAN infrastructure.

Execute all necessary configurations and changes to the storage environment.

Monitor storage health and performance; identify, recommend, and report any anomalies.

Keep all storage firmware and management software UpToDate.

3. Network Security (Firewall)

Provide hardware and software technical support for the municipal firewall appliance(s).

Maintain configuration backups and apply firmware updates as required.

Manage all firewall configurations, rule sets, and policy changes.

Identify, recommend, and report any security anomalies or intrusion attempts.

Ensure the firewall operating system is kept UpToDate to mitigate vulnerabilities.

4. Endpoint Protection (Antivirus)

Ensure antivirus engine databases and definition files are continuously UpToDate.

Manage the antivirus management console to verify that all client machines are reporting and are up to date with the latest definitions.

Identify, recommend, and report any anomalies regarding malware detection or compromised endpoints.

Maintain system configurations and provide hardware/software support for the antivirus platform.

Keep the antivirus management system and its components UpToDate.

5. Backup & Disaster Recovery (Veeam)

Maintain and manage all municipal backup jobs to ensure data recoverability.

Ensure the backup system is always functional and performing scheduled jobs without failure.

Conduct mandatory backup restoration tests on a bi-annual basis and compile detailed reports for audit purposes.

Maintain system configurations and ensure the backup environment is optimized for performance.

Keep the Veeam backup software and underlying infrastructure UpToDate.

Provide hardware and software technical support for the backup solution.

6. Cloud Services (Microsoft 365)

Manage all configurations within the Microsoft 365 tenant (Exchange Online, SharePoint, Teams, etc.).

Ensure the Microsoft 365 environment is kept UpToDate with available features and security settings.

Provide software technical support to end-users regarding the Microsoft 365 suite.

Identify, recommend, and report any anomalies regarding service health or security compliance.

7. Remote Access (Virtual Private Network - VPN)

Manage all configurations for the municipal VPN solutions to ensure secure remote access.

Provide software technical support for VPN clients and connectivity issues.

Identify, recommend, and report any anomalies regarding access logs or security concerns.

Pay: R5 500,00 per week

Application Question(s):

• Minimum 5 years experience and have completed the following Qualifications : -

Mandatory:

*Certificate Information System Security Professional - CISSP
*Certified in Cybersecurity - CC

Advantageous:

*WLAN Planning and Installation Certified
*Cisco Systems - Interconnecting Cisco Network Devices (ICND)
*Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA)
*IBM Certified Specialist (System X Technical)
*Microsoft Certified Professional Systems Engineer (MCSE)
