PURPOSE:
What is the purpose of this job?
The Tax & Accounting Officer will be responsible for supporting the organisation’s tax, statutory compliance, accounting, and financial reporting activities. The role will involve preparing and submitting tax and statutory returns, assisting with SARS compliance and queries, performing tax calculations and reconciliations, and supporting the preparation of financial and management accounts
The successful candidate will work closely with senior accountants, management, SARS, external tax consultants, auditors, and other internal stakeholders to ensure accurate and timely compliance with all applicable tax and statutory requirements.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
What are you responsible for doing?
Tax & SARS Compliance
- Prepare and submit VAT201, EMP201, EMP501, IT14, and other applicable SARS returns.
- Prepare Corporate Income Tax and Provisional Tax calculations and submissions.
- Prepare deferred tax calculations and related schedules.
- Manage SARS e-Filing administration, including submissions, queries, follow-ups, requests, and correspondence
- Maintain accurate records of tax submissions, assessments, supporting documentation, and correspondence.
- Monitor tax compliance deadlines and ensure submissions are completed accurately and on time.
- Assist in identifying and managing tax compliance risks.
- Liaise with SARS, tax consultants, auditors, and internal stakeholders on tax-related matters.
- Ensure compliance with applicable tax legislation and statutory regulations.
Tax Calculations & Advisory Support
- Prepare basic tax calculations for companies.
- Assist with corporate tax compliance and tax-risk management.
- Prepare supporting schedules and documentation for tax computations.
- Coordinate with external tax consultants where required.
- Support the preparation and maintenance of Transfer Pricing documentation.
- Assist with Country-by-Country (CbC) Reporting requirements.
- Research and communicate basic tax implications and requirements to senior team members.
Accounting & Financial Reporting
- Assist with the preparation and submission of statutory returns and regulator
- Respond to and assist with audit queries and requests for supporting documentation.
- VAT reconciliations
- PAYE reconciliations
- Control account reconciliations
- Other balance sheet and tax-related reconciliations
- Assist with the preparation of monthly management accounts.
Statutory & Compliance Administration
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date tax files, statutory records, annual returns, and compliance documentation.
- Assist with the preparation and submission of statutory returns and regulatory documentation.
- Ensure all supporting documentation is properly filed and readily available for audit or compliance purposes.
- Monitor statutory deadlines and escalate potential delays or compliance issues.
- Perform general administrative duties relating to tax, accounting, and statutory compliance.
Stakeholder & Team Support
- Work closely with senior accountants and the Finance Manager to ensure all tax, accounting, and statutory deadlines are met.
- Liaise professionally with SARS, external tax advisors, auditors, and other relevant stakeholders.
- Provide timely updates on outstanding submissions, queries, and compliance matters.
- Escalate complex tax or accounting matters to senior management or external advisors where appropriate.
- Maintain confidentiality and professional standards when handling financial and tax information.

TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES Systems, processes, and technical competencies:
- Sound understanding of basic South African tax principles.
- Working knowledge of:
- VAT201
- EMP201
- IT14
- Corporate tax
- Provisional Tax
- PAYE
- Deferred Tax
- Understanding of basic accounting principles and financial statements.
- Knowledge of statutory and tax compliance requirements.
- Familiarity with Transfer Pricing and CbC Reporting would be advantageous.
- Systems & Software
- Proficiency in SARS e-Filing
- Experience with accounting/ERP systems will be advantageous

OTHER JOB REQUIREMENTS
What theoretical knowledge (e.g. degree / diploma) does the job require?
- Grade 12 or equivalent qualification required
- BCom Accounting, BCom Taxation, or equivalent qualification advantageous.
- relevant accounting, taxation, or finance qualification/certificate will be considered
What experience (e.g. previous exposure) does the job require?
- 1–2 years' experience in tax, accounting, or a related finance environment.
- Candidates with relevant SAICA/SAIPA articles or articles exposure will be considered.
- Practical experience with VAT, PAYE, and SARS submissions is preferred.
- Experience in a professional accounting, audit, or tax environment would be advantageous.
- FMCG, retail, or manufacturing experience preferred
- Proficient in Microsoft Office.
