Administrative activities

  • Monitoring and loading corporate action events in tax reporting systems based on announcement date and other event details
  • Apply South African tax principles in costing (proceeds / base cost) corporate action events for purposes of client tax reporting
  • Capture treatment of corporate and other events in the client CGT reporting system
  • Monitoring and clearing exceptions in the various tax reporting systems (primarily CGT)
  • Liaise with business on treatment of corporate action events in the client tax reports
  • Assist in preparation and review of client tax reports (income and CGT)
  • Address client queries on any matters pertaining to tax reporting
  • Detail review of the effect on the client’s portfolio of corporate events and ensuring that the corporate event reflects accurately on tax and other sub-systems
  • Reviewing journal entries passed in various tax reporting systems for accuracy and completeness
  • Review of scrip movement prices
  • Investigate dividend & corporate action discrepancies and resolve accordingly
  • Research corporate events to form an understanding, interpret accurately & make decisions accordingly

Compliance activities

  • Assist with Third-Party data submissions to SARS
  • Assist with the FATCA and CRS reporting obligations to SARS
  • Staying abreast of changes with respect to FATCA and CRS regulations
  • Assist with all Qualified Intermediary reporting to the IRS as well as relevant client reporting
  • Staying abreast of changes in respect of Qualified Intermediary status
  • Take ownership of the requirements related to W8/W9 forms completed by clients as follows:
  • Review and provide feedback regarding the completeness and accuracy thereof
  • Staying abreast of changes with respect to these forms, and communicating those changes to business in a timely manner
  • Assist with on-going training regarding the accuracy and completeness of the forms
  • Responding to queries raised by the wider business / clients
  • Ensure that the W8/W9 withholding tax status is updated for each client across systems
  • Assist with policy and operational process development and enhancement to ensure compliance management of reporting requirements.
  • Assist with any IRS and SARS audits
  • Assist as needed on tax jurisdiction research to ensure compliance with regulatory guidelines What will make you successful in this role?
  • Experience within financial services, with a strong understanding of financial markets
  • Strong working knowledge of key legislation, particularly FAIS and JSE requirements

Qualification and experience

  • Tertiary qualification in Finance / Accounting / Compliance / Tax

  • Experience attending to Qualified Intermediary reporting to the IRS

  • Experience attending to FATCA / CRS reporting to SARS

  • Basic understanding of the private client business and the stock-broking environment advantageous

  • Experience within the finance / tax consulting industry advantageous

  • Corporate Actions knowledge and experience will be advantageous Knowledge and skills

  • Previous experience within Private Wealth industry will be advantageous

  • Fully bilingual (English and Afrikaans)

  • Candidate must be highly computer literate and highly proficient in Microsoft Excel

  • Thorough understanding of internal control and operational processes

  • Knowledge on the current FATCA & CRS reporting requirements in South Africa Personal attributes
