PURPOSE
The Tax Compliance Analyst is responsible for operationalising tax compliance activities, with a primary focus on VAT and income tax compliance, and for collating, preparing, and validating tax information arising from treasury, payments, banking, forex, finance operations and investment activities. The role supports the Finance Manager: Treasury & Tax Compliance by ensuring tax data is accurate, complete, timely, and audit‑ready. Final review and submission remain with the Finance Manager or appointed tax advisors. The incumbent is responsible for the day-to-day execution of tax, compliance and control activities. The role serves as the primary point of contact for all tax-related matters across the business, coordinating with internal stakeholders, external advisors, auditors and SARS where required.

Your key responsibilities include:
VAT Compliance
- Prepare and maintain VAT workings, technical assessments and reconciliations relating to but not limited to:
- Bank charges
- Treasury and payment activities
- Forex transactions
- Credit card expenditure
- Perform detailed VAT reconciliations between ERP, bank statements, and supporting schedules.
- Identify, investigate and resolve VAT variances, errors, or unusual movements.
- Assess VAT implications of new products, services, contractual arrangements and strategic initiatives.
- Collate and prepare VAT support schedules for VAT returns.
- Assist the Finance Manager with VAT return preparation, including supporting documentation and audit trails.
- Support responses to VAT queries, audits, and reviews.
- Review VAT treatment of complex transactions and prepare supporting technical analyses.
- Recommend process improvements and control enhancements to mitigate VAT compliance risks.
Income Tax & Provisional Tax Support
- Collate and prepare information required for income tax and provisional tax returns, including not limited to:
- Interest income
- Investment income
- Forex‑related gains or losses
- Treasury‑related income and expenses
- Funding arrangements.
- Employee incentive schemes
- Prepare provisional tax calculations and supporting documentation.
- Support tax planning initiatives and identify opportunities for tax efficiencies while maintaining compliance.
- Maintain supporting schedules and reconciliations for provisional tax calculations.
- Assist in preparing tax packs for review by the Finance Manager and/or external tax advisors.
- Track key tax deadlines and ensure timely availability of required information.
Tax Compliance Data Collation & Reporting
- Act as the central point for collating tax‑relevant information from:
- Treasury operations
- Finance operations
- Banking platforms
- ERP systems
- Maintain robust tax working papers, reconciliations, and audit‑ready documentation.
- Support preparation of tax disclosures and management reporting where required.
- Ensure consistency between accounting records, tax schedules, treasury data and regulatory submissions.
- Prepare information required for tax cash flow forecasting and tax risk assessments.
- Develop and maintain tax dashboards, reporting packs and management information.
- Deliver robust deferred tax calculations and prepare IFRS-compliant tax disclosures.
- Support the preparation of annual financial statement disclosures relating to taxation.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives aimed at making PayInc a leader in tax governance, compliance and reporting.
Treasury & Payments – Tax Support Role
- Support treasury and payment execution activities from a tax compliance perspective, including but not limited to:
- Reviewing bank charges for VAT correctness
- Identifying tax implications of payment types and structures
- Supporting accurate tax classification in ERP
- Assist with cash, investment, and forex data needed for tax compliance.
- Maintain tax‑related documentation for treasury transactions.
- Assist with compliance reviews of treasury processes and controls.
- Identify and escalate treasury-related tax risks and control weaknesses.
Treasury, Investments & Business Tax Advisory Support
- Assist with collating forex transaction data for tax purposes.
- Maintain detailed schedules of foreign exchange transactions and related tax implications.
- Analyse forex gains and losses for tax reporting and financial reporting purposes.
- Support tax assessments relating to but not limited to:
- Investment income
- Interest income
- Treasury activities
- Funding arrangements
- Financial instruments
- Cross-border transactions.
- Ensure confirmations and supporting documentation are retained for tax and audit purposes.
- Assess tax implications of:
- International customers
- International suppliers
- Imported services
- Cross-border settlements
- Foreign currency transactions
- New products, services and commercial arrangements
- Assist in assessing tax risks arising from cross-border activities and foreign currency exposure.
- Review transactions, contracts and business initiatives to identify potential VAT, income tax and withholding tax implications.
- Assist with the evaluation of tax risks arising from international operations, foreign currency exposure and complex commercial arrangements.
- Support the tax treatment and documentation of treasury, investment and funding transactions.
- Ensure confirmations, agreements and supporting documentation are maintained for tax compliance, external audit and SARS purposes.
- Prepare technical analyses and recommendations for review on complex tax matters.
- Identify opportunities to enhance tax compliance, reduce risk and improve tax governance across the Finance function.
Reconciliations & Accounting Support (Tax‑Focused)
- Perform tax‑related reconciliations, including but not limited to:
- VAT clearing accounts
- Treasury‑related balance sheet accounts
- Support journal preparation and review for tax‑relevant entries.
- Assist with month‑end and year‑end close processes from a tax compliance perspective.
- Assist with technical accounting assessments where taxation impacts IFRS reporting.
- Support calculations and disclosures relating to:
- IAS 12
- IFRS 9
- IAS 19
- IFRS 16
- Other complex transactions with tax implications
Audit & SARS Support
- Act as the primary operational contact for tax-related external audit, internal audit and SARS engagements.
- Compile and provide supporting documentation for tax audits and reviews.
- Support remediation of tax‑related audit findings through improved documentation and processes.
- Assist with responses to SARS queries under the guidance of the Finance Manager.
- Monitor and track audit findings and tax-related remediation plans.
Finance Risk Management, Compliance & Controls (Operational)
- Identify and escalate tax compliance risks, errors, or control weaknesses.
- Ensure compliance with tax legislation, internal policies, and procedures.
