SUMMARY: Technician (Desktop and Infrastructure Support)- IT– Killarney Gardens
POSITION INFO: Main purpose of the job: Hands-on technician providing first- and second-line support for workstations, peripherals and business systems, plus entry-level support for networks, wireless and surveillance. The role covers three sites and suits a practical, quick-thinking person comfortable in a fast-paced, dynamic environment. Minimum Requirements: Education: Matric (NQF 4) minimum. IT certificate\/diploma or vendor certifications advantageous (CompTIA A+\/N+, Microsoft, Fortinet NSE or ManageEngine). Valid driver''s licence - essential, with regular travel required between three sites On-site role - fully on-premises with no hybrid or remote working; based on-site across the three locations. Standby availability: must be available for rotational after-hours, weekend and public-holiday standby (24\/7 operation). Who are we looking Security-minded background - ideally from or moving towards a cybersecurity background, approaching all work with security best practices as the guiding principle. Some experience - not a green junior. 1-3 years'' hands-on IT\/desktop support experience, ready to grow into a broader infrastructure role. Self-driven, adaptable & hard-working - eager to learn, willing to do what it takes, with a high work ethic and pride in delivering to the required standard Strong people skills - friendly, outgoing and confident dealing with users and stakeholders across all sites. Quick on their feet - able to balance and prioritise a mixed workload and problem-solve under pressure in a dynamic environment. Strong troubleshooting & analytical skills - methodical fault-finding across hardware, software and network issues. Physically able to do installation work - mounting cameras and access points, running and terminating cabling, and installing or relocating hardware (may involve working at heights and lifting equipment). Technical Knowledge Networking: Fortinet firewalls and switches; basic network topology; IPv4 addressing and subnetting; LAN \/ WLAN connectivity. Wireless & connectivity: HPE Aruba Instant On wireless equipment; point-to-point (PtP) links; desktop and laptop hardware Surveillance: Dahua CCTV - able to configure cameras and NVR\/DVR recording from scratch. Endpoint security: Sophos antivirus; ManageEngine suite (e.g. Endpoint Central) for patching and deployment. Microsoft 365 & Office: administration and support of Microsoft 365 and Office applications (Outlook, Word, Excel). General: Windows OS and business applications, printers and barcode printers, ERP workstations, mobile\/handheld scanning devices Key Responsibilities Desktop support & PC builds: prepare, build, install and configure desktops, laptops, peripherals and printers; OS\/software installs, patching and endpoint security; second-line troubleshooting of PC hardware, software and performance issues. Networking (LAN\/WLAN): assist with switches, firewalls, access points and cabling; connectivity troubleshooting, basic firewall\/VPN changes and site surveys. Surveillance: install and configure CCTV cameras and recording devices from scratch, and maintain related hardware; fault-finding and footage support. ERP & peripherals : support ERP workstations and clients, barcode\/label printers, POS terminals and handheld scanners Standby, incident response & records : respond within agreed timeframes, log and escalate incidents, and maintain accurate asset, configuration and incident records. Project work: support IT projects and rollouts (installs, upgrades, site deployments) alongside daily support.
