Job description
ONLY APPLY IF you are a REGISTERED HPCSA Counsellors:
You will provide your services pro bono.
You will need to be registered with HPCSA, with suitable qualifications and experience, to work with and counsel children in South Africa with suicidal ideation.
You will be part of a team manning a crisis line 24/7, on rotation, taking crisis calls and averting suicide.
You will be part of a team providing follow-up suicide prevention counselling to children in need once their crisis has been averted.
All services take place remotely via WhatsApp video call.
You may volunteer as a practice with a single or multiple counsellors, or as an individual.
You will report to an appointed psychologist who ensures all activities are above board.
In general, the number of crisis calls is not extremely high, as we filter scammers' fake calls before providing the direct numbers of counsellors.
You will report detailed information of reach-outs to the senior counsellor and an administrative person for confidential recordkeeping.
You will report limited information to the board of directors.
We do see spikes in children reaching out shortly after visits to schools, but between these visits, calls are minimal.
The follow-up counselling will be only where needed, and many interactions with children will stop after the crisis call is taken.
As a non-profit, we cannot offer you any remuneration.
