The Group Third Party and Operational Risk Reporting Specialist is responsible for enabling effective Group wide oversight of third party risk, operational risk and related governance processes.

The role supports the consistent implementation and ongoing maturity of Third-Party Risk Management (TPRM) and Operational Risk frameworks across the Group, ensuring alignment to regulatory expectations and sound governance standards applicable to South African financial institutions.

Working in close partnership with Segment risk teams and senior stakeholders, the role strengthens non financial risk frameworks, enhances enterprise level risk reporting, and provides informed oversight of third party arrangements and key non financial risk exposures. The role also supports the governance, maintenance and continuous improvement of Group non financial risk policies, frameworks and governance forums.

Through direct exposure to Group level risk governance and risk reporting, the role contributes to the ongoing enhancement of the Group’s non financial risk management capability, third party resilience and decision useful risk insights.

  • Strengthen Group oversight of third-party risk, outsourcing and material insourcing arrangements to ensure resilience and regulatory compliance.
  • Enhance the effectiveness and consistency of non-financial risk governance, reporting and policy management across the Group.

Are you someone who can:

Group Third Party Risk Management Oversight:

  • Provide Group‑level oversight of the Third-Party Risk Management (TPRM) framework to ensure consistent application, ongoing effectiveness and regulatory alignment across segments.
  • Review and challenge crown jewel third‑party risk assessments and ongoing monitoring activities to identify material risks, control gaps, cross‑segment dependencies and systemic issues.
  • Monitor and report on critical third‑party dependencies ensuring timely escalation of significant risk exposures and emerging issues.
  • Contribute to the enhancement of the Group’s operational resilience capability, including oversight of critical services and third‑party dependencies that may impact service continuity.

Non**‑**Financial Risk Oversight:

  • Support Group oversight of non‑financial risks, with emphasis on material and emerging risk exposures.
  • Promote consistent risk identification, assessment and mitigation practices across the Group through guidance, challenge and alignment to Group frameworks and standards.
  • Contribute to the ongoing development and refinement of Group non‑financial risk frameworks, methodologies and standards.

You will be an ideal candidate if you:

  • Have 3 to 5 years' relevant experience in risk, finance, modelling, corporate finance or quantitative role.
  • Strong understanding of valuation methodologies, financial models, and techniques used in business rescue, financial recovery and resolution.
  • Strong analytical and data manipulation skills with proficiency in building and maintaining financial models
  • Familiarity with relevant existing and evolving regulations and standards related to recovery and resolution modelling
  • Knowledge of existing and evolving regulatory frameworks related to recovery and resolution planning.
  • High proficiency in Advanced Excel, PowerPoint and Word, and possess excellent communication skills and good organisational abilities.
  • HFM and CDM experience are beneficial.
  • Understanding of the FirstRand group structure and risk management processes beneficial.
  • Due to the nature of the work, confidentiality and ethics are of utmost importance.
  • Well-informed effective management information to allow senior management to take decisions that benefit Corporate Treasury
  • Scope, complexity, risk associated with projects
  • Implement policies and safeguard the Bank Group's interest within the context of regulatory environment and FRG as a whole
  • The work requires strong analytic and risk management practice, requiring logical thinking and attention to details. There is also a significant amount of meeting and mail-based communication of practices.
  • The work requires significant attention to detail, multi-tasking and strict time pressures. The work also requires strong adaption to regulatory development and changes.
  • Requires good written and oral communication skills and must be team player, with the ability to multitask and take accountability/ownership for work.

Qualifications

Postgraduate or Honours degree in Risk Management or Law or Finance or Data and Analytics

Third-Party Risk and /or Third-Party Risk Certifications (CISSP, CISA, CISM, CRISC or equivalent), Risk Management or Audit, Business Knowledge.

  • 3–5 years’ experience in risk management within a financial services environment (e.g. banking or insurance), with a strong focus on operational risk and third‑party risk management.
  • 1–2 years’ experience operating at a specialist or Group‑level oversight role.
  • Demonstrated experience working with cross‑functional teams and stakeholders across third‑party and operational risk activities.
  • Strong understanding of relevant regulations, industry standards and operational risk management practices.
  • 3–5 years’ experience interpreting and analysing data to support risk management frameworks and reporting.
  • Experience monitoring external developments, regulatory change and third‑party risk best practices, and translating these into organisational standards.
