Trainee Boiler Superintendent

MAIN PURPOSE OF JOB

• Lead and manage all shift personnel – maintain discipline, communication, motivation and safety
• Manage and control essential site services (water, effluent discharge, compressed air and electricity)
• Coordinate boiler cleaning activities, outages and inspections
• Assist boiler maintenance foreman with shutdown tasks and key area projects (hits)
• Carry out daily inspections and develop defect reports for maintenance team
• Reporting incidents, accidents and near-miss situations in the standard format
• Ensuring compliance to all ISO policies and procedures
• Undertake safety, health and environmental initiatives with shift team members
• Ensure coal deliveries are offloaded within stipulated times

Qualifications, Experience And Personal Qualities/Skills

• Matric / Grade 12 with a minimum of 3 years’ operational experience in a steam and electrical generation plant, with proven experience in boiler operations.
• A minimum of 3 years’ boiler operations experience is required.
• Boiler modules and an applicable electrical, fitting or millwright trade test will be advantageous but are not an immediate prerequisite, as the successful candidate will be required to complete the prescribed development programme.
• The Company will provide a bespoke training and development programme, comprising the required boiler modules and an applicable Electrical, Fitting or Millwright Trade Test, depending on the operational requirements and the candidate’s identified trade pathway.
• The successful candidate will be required to successfully complete all prescribed training, modules and relevant trade-test requirements within a maximum period of three (3) years from commencement of the programme.
• The Company will bear the cost of the initial training and assessment attempts in accordance with its applicable training and development arrangements. Where the candidate is unsuccessful in a second or subsequent attempt, the Company will not be responsible for the costs associated with such further attempts, unless otherwise determined by the Company.
• Appointment as a fully-fledged Superintendent will be subject to the successful completion of the prescribed development programme and attainment of all relevant boiler competencies, modules and applicable trade-test qualifications.
• Until all prescribed requirements and qualifications have been successfully attained, the employee will remain subject to the applicable developmental/probationary appointment arrangements and will not be regarded as a fully-fledged Superintendent.
• Successful completion of the programme does not guarantee appointment as a Superintendent where the required competencies, qualifications or performance standards have not been achieved.
