About the Role:

Our client – a leading retail in Southern Africa, offering high-quality fresh produce and specialty products through a customer – focused, value-driven retail experience are looking for Trainee Managers.

To gain complete exposure to the day to business and operations of the Company and in so doing to provide appropriate assistance to Store Managers.

Your ‘day to day’

• Support and assistance to the Store Manager in order to contribute to the efficient operation of the store
• Learning the full scope of the retail trade in order to perform the full management function
• Management of colleagues in order to ensure maximum productivity and efficiency
• Ensure knowledge and understanding of the management function
• Manage shop-floor colleagues & ensure compliance with personnel administration procedures including recruitment and termination, attendance, clocking, payroll, payout and reconciliation, personnel files and uniform code
• Understand and be able to perform the following procedures and controls:
• Receiving procedures with the appropriate control checks in relation to Security, Stock, Stock Shortages, price Discrepancies, Interbranch Transfers, Expenses, Day End Documentation, Waste and housekeeping
• Till Controlling – ensuring that all procedures are adhered to
• Cash Office Procedures including security, banking, petty cash, deposits
• Computer operation and related procedures including purchasing, waste, reports, stocktaking, creditors related procedures, cashing-up procedures, expenses, profit report, information back-up
• Stocktaking procedure from initiation to finalisation
• Filing of documentation

Minimum Requirements:

• General retail experience
• Tertiary Management / Retail Qualification (preferable)
• High numeracy and literacy level

Accountabilities:

• To develop broad knowledge and skills that will enable the candidate to perform the store management function
• To provide assistance to the Store Manager as required
• To manage shop-floor colleagues
• To carry out the purchasing / ordering function and other related actions

Competencies:

• The ability to identify problems in work tasks and decide independently on solutions
• The ability to think strategically to identify problems or opportunities and plan accordingly
• The ability to see the links in each stage of the retail process
• The ability to plan, organise and manage tasks
