TJ Logistics and Plant Hire (Pty) Ltd invites applications from experienced transport professionals for the position of Transport & Logistics Manager . The role will lead fleet utilisation, dispatch, driver management, compliance, maintenance coordination, and customer delivery performance.

Management

Reporting and Role Boundaries

• Owns transport planning, dispatch, fleet utilisation, driver control, and delivery performance.
• Finance retains accounting, payment, asset-finance, and financial-reporting authority.
• Procurement manages purchasing and supplier contracting; the Transport Manager defines operational specifications and confirms service performance.
• The Company Administrator maintains records and reporting support but does not direct transport operations.

Customer Services

• Plan vehicle, driver, route, load, and plant deployment to meet confirmed customer requirements.
• Operate daily dispatch controls, trip sheets, route plans, loading instructions, and delivery confirmations.
• Monitor delays, breakdowns, border issues, and customer changes and coordinate timely responses.
• Balance service levels with vehicle availability, capacity, and cost.

Fleet Utilisation and Maintenance Control

• Monitor fleet utilisation, kilometres, fuel use, downtime, repair cost, and asset productivity.
• Coordinate preventive maintenance, inspections, licensing, tyres, tracking devices, and breakdown response.
• Maintain complete vehicle, trailer, plant, insurance, and service records.
• Recommend replacement, disposal, hire, or acquisition decisions supported by operating data.

Safety, Compliance and Driver Management

• Ensure compliance with transport, road, border, permit, insurance, and occupational safety requirements.
• Lead driver recruitment input, induction, scheduling, performance, discipline, and safety monitoring with HR.
• Investigate incidents, accidents, fuel variances, route deviations, and cargo losses and implement corrective action.
• Promote defensive driving, load security, and professional customer conduct.

Commercial And Reporting Responsibilities

• Provide accurate cost and capacity information for quotations, contracts, and tenders.
• Track revenue-generating trips, empty kilometres, subcontracted transport, and plant-hire utilisation.
• Review customer service performance and resolve operational complaints.
• Submit daily exception reports and monthly transport dashboards to management.

Key Performance Deliverables

• High on-time delivery performance and improved fleet utilisation.
• Reduced fuel variance, avoidable downtime, accident frequency, and emergency maintenance.
• Complete driver, vehicle, permit, insurance, and trip records.
• Reliable route, capacity, and operating-cost information.
• Clear accountability across transport staff and drivers.

Minimum Qualifications And Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in Transport Management, Logistics, Supply Chain, Operations, or an equivalent qualification.
• At least five years of demonstrable transport, fleet, or logistics-management experience.
• Experience managing commercial vehicles, drivers, dispatch, maintenance, and cross-border operations is strongly preferred.
• Knowledge of transport costing, fuel control, route planning, vehicle tracking, and safety management.
• Experience with fleet-management, ERP, or logistics systems.
• Valid heavy-vehicle or appropriate driver’s licence is advantageous; a valid ordinary driver’s licence is required.
