The position focuses on managing liquidity and investment portfolios while actively overseeing interest rate risk within the banking book to enhance the Group's Return on Tangible Equity (ROTE). The Treasury Markets Dealer plays a proactive role in providing insightful, market-driven solutions to internal partners, fostering collaboration across regions to prioritise Group-wide performance over individual country or regional advantages. This role demands strong analytical and risk management skills combined with an ability to stay agile and responsive in a dynamic market environment. You will be part of a team that values professionalism and strategic thinking to drive sustainable financial success for the Bank.

Key Responsibilities

Liquidity Management and Controls

Closely monitor and manage the Bank's liquidity, including ZAR RTGS and all NOSTRO accounts, ensuring they are prudently funded in a timely manner across multiple markets.

Maintain daily intraday liquidity positions in compliance with Group Policies, local regulatory requirements, and payment system standards, anticipating and addressing potential liquidity breaches proactively.

Collaborate with senior stakeholders and Market Risk teams to manage limits and risk exposures effectively.

Support the management of multiple treasury risks - liquidity, market access, maturity concentration and interest rate risk - aligning actions with group and regulatory guidelines.

Facilitate accurate and timely communication of Funds Transfer Pricing (FTP) rates to relevant internal stakeholders and resolve any discrepancies or challenges arising from FTP methodologies.

Ensure all treasury market transactions comply with bank codes of conduct, policies and procedures.

Provide strategic recommendations on deposit initiatives and prudent funding of the Bank’s asset base to the Head of Treasury Markets.

Enhance the Bank’s international reputation by demonstrating professionalism and cultivating strong, mutually beneficial banking relationships.

Investment Management

Assist the Desk Head in managing and optimising the financial resource framework encompassing capital, liquidity, Expected Credit Losses (ECL), and Risk-Weighted Assets (RWA), to maximise ROTE within established mandates.

Support the development, presentation, and implementation of investment strategies tailored to the South African market, aligning with broader Group objectives.

Collaborate actively with Treasury Markets Desk Heads, promoting a culture of teamwork, shared responsibility, and collective success.

Respond efficiently to ad hoc requests from the TM Desk Head, demonstrating flexibility and dedication to achieving the Bank’s goals.

Process Governance and Compliance

Ensure adherence to Treasury Markets' governance frameworks by participating in risk management and control committees that oversee business and risk processes.

Continuously identify opportunities to enhance risk controls and process efficiency within the Treasury Markets function.

Maintain thorough documentation and audit-ready compliance records, supporting transparent internal and external regulatory reviews.

Qualifications and Experience

A university degree in a relevant discipline such as Finance, Accounting, Investment Management, or Economics, supported by a minimum of four years’ experience in a Treasury Markets environment.

Demonstrable, hands-on knowledge of Money Market instruments, FX trading, and interest rate products.

Ability to perform effectively in a fast-paced environment, delivering accurate and timely outcomes.

Strong team ethos and a collaborative approach to problem-solving.

Exceptional communication skills, both oral and written, enabling clear and confident interaction with internal and external stakeholders.

Well-rounded understanding of general banking operations to represent the Bank with professionalism.

Skilled at interpreting key economic indicators to explain Treasury products and their benefits.

Numeracy skills and proficiency with relevant computer applications.

Excellent interpersonal attributes, fostering productive relationships and teamwork.

Strong analytical, accounting, financial management, and investment analysis capabilities.

Skills

Strong expertise in financial products and markets, particularly money markets, foreign exchange, and interest rate products relevant to Treasury functions.

Comprehensive understanding of governance frameworks, regulatory requirements, and risk management principles, including corporate governance and control environments.

Effective communication skills to clearly articulate complex financial information both verbally and in writing.

Solid foundation in finance and accounting principles, coupled with analytical acumen for financial analysis and reporting.

Proven ability to influence decisions through technical expertise and demonstrated knowledge of organisational dynamics.

Proficiency in liquidity management operations, resolution planning, and capital management strategies.

Commitment to maintaining high ethical standards, sound judgment, and collaborative work practices.

Capacity to work under pressure while upholding accuracy, efficiency, and teamwork.
