Job description
We are looking for a highly skilled and dependable Code 14 Driver with extensive experience in operating double trailers (Interlinks). This role is vital to our supply chain, ensuring the safe and timeous transport of raw materials and finished packaging products between our facility, suppliers, and client sites.
We are looking for a professional who treats the vehicle as their own and prioritizes safety above all else.
Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Vehicle Operation & Manoeuvring
- Safely operate heavy vehicles (Code 14) with double/interlink trailers across regional routes.
- Expertly navigate tight loading bays and industrial sites, ensuring no damage to property, cargo, or the vehicle.
- Adhere strictly to the rules of the road and the National Road Traffic Act.
2. Cargo Integrity & Flow
- Oversee the secure loading and off-loading of goods to prevent damage during transit.
- Verify delivery notes and paperwork against physical cargo to ensure 100% accuracy in deliveries.
- Maintain a strict schedule to ensure production flow is never interrupted by late material arrivals.
3. Maintenance & Pre-Trip Inspections
- Conduct rigorous Pre-Trip Inspections (tyres, oil, water, brakes, lights) before every journey.
- Report any mechanical defects immediately to the fleet manager to minimize downtime.
- Keep the vehicle interior and exterior in a clean and professional condition, representing the African Star Pac brand on the road.
4. Safety & Compliance
- Maintain a zero-tolerance approach to speeding and reckless driving.
- Ensure all loads are properly strapped and secured according to safety protocols.
Keep accurate logs of driving hours and fuel consumption
Skills and Competencies:
- Precision: Exceptional ability to reverse and maneuver double trailers in confined spaces
- Reliability: A history of punctuality and consistent attendance.
- Patience: Remaining calm and professional during traffic delays or long loading wait times.
- Integrity: Honest reporting of fuel usage, mileage, and incident details.
Minimum Requirements and Experience:
- Grade 12.
- Licensing: Valid Code 14 (EC) Driver’s License.
- Permits: Valid Professional Driving Permit (PrDP) with no endorsements.
- Experience: Minimum 5 years of active experience driving Code 14 vehicles, specifically with interlink/double trailers.
- Track Record: A clean driving record with no major accidents or serious traffic violations.
- Technical Knowledge: Basic mechanical knowledge to identify potential engine or trailer issues before they lead to breakdowns.
- Language: Ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written) in English for reporting and documentation.
Position Details:
- Working Hours: Shift Based
- Basic Remuneration: Market Related
Pay: R12 000,00 - R16 000,00 per month
