Trucking Operations Manager

Position Summary

The Trucking Operations Manager is responsible for overseeing all daily trucking operations, including fleet management, driver supervision, dispatch, compliance, and customer service. This role ensures safe, efficient, and cost-effective transportation of freight while maintaining regulatory compliance and maximizing profitability.

Key Responsibilities

Operations & Dispatch

• Manage daily dispatch and routing of trucks to ensure on-time pickup and delivery
• Optimize routes and loads to maximize efficiency and reduce empty miles
• Monitor operations in real-time and resolve delays, breakdowns, or service issues
• Oversee load planning, scheduling, and coordination with customers and brokers

Fleet Management

• Oversee maintenance, repairs, and DOT inspections for all company trucks and trailers
• Track fuel consumption, mileage, and operational costs
• Ensure ELD compliance and manage fleet management system / TMS software
• Coordinate with external repair shops and manage parts inventory

Driver Management

• Recruit, hire, train, and supervise drivers
• Manage driver schedules, hours of service (HOS), and performance reviews
• Enforce safety policies, conduct safety meetings, and investigate incidents/accidents
• Address driver concerns, retention, and disciplinary actions

Compliance & Safety

• Ensure full compliance with DOT, FMCSA, and state/local transportation regulations
• Maintain driver qualification files, logbooks, drug & alcohol testing programs
• Ensure all permits, licenses, and insurance are current
• Manage safety audits, CSA scores, and implement corrective actions

Financial & Customer Management

• Control operational budget, manage P&L for the trucking division
• Negotiate rates with customers, vendors, and carriers
• Monitor KPIs: on-time delivery %, cost per mile, utilization rate, deadhead %, driver turnover
• Build and maintain strong relationships with customers and resolve service issues

Requirements & Qualifications

Essential:

• 5+ years experience in trucking / transportation / logistics operations
• 2+ years in a supervisory or management role
• Strong knowledge of DOT/FMCSA regulations, HOS, ELD, and compliance
• Experience with TMS software
• Proven leadership and dispatch management skills
• Valid driver's license
• Strong problem-solving ability and able to work under pressure

Preferred:

• Bachelor's degree in Logistics, Supply Chain, Business, or related field
• Experience with long-haul, regional, and local operations
• Knowledge of preventative maintenance programs
• Bilingual

Working Conditions & Compensation

• Salary: R15,000 per month, with the possibility of an increase after a three-month observation and performance review period.
• Benefits: To be discussed based on company policy.
• Schedule: Monday–Friday, with on-call availability for emergencies, weekends, and after-hours issues where required.
• Physical Requirements: Ability to work in both an office and yard environment and handle high-pressure situations.

NB with experience in side tipper operations

Pay: R14 867,40 - R25 111,71 per month

Work Location: In person
