Job description
Job Title: Full-Time E-Hailing Driver
Location: Johannesburg / Midrand / Sandton / Waterfall and surrounding areas
Job Type: Full-time
Industry: E-Hailing / Passenger Transport
Platforms: Uber, Bolt and other approved e-hailing platforms
Job Overview
We are looking for a reliable, professional and responsible full-time e-hailing driver to operate a vehicle on platforms such as Uber and Bolt. The ideal candidate must be punctual, respectful, safety-conscious and experienced in transporting passengers in and around Johannesburg, Midrand, Sandton, Waterfall and surrounding areas.
The driver will be responsible for providing excellent customer service, maintaining the cleanliness and condition of the vehicle, following platform rules, and ensuring that daily or weekly income targets are met. This position is best suited for someone who understands the e-hailing industry, knows how to work during peak times, and can manage fuel, time and routes efficiently.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
The driver will be responsible for accepting and completing trips on approved e-hailing platforms in a professional and efficient manner. The driver must ensure that passengers are collected and dropped off safely, courteously and on time.
The driver must maintain a high standard of customer service at all times. This includes greeting passengers respectfully, assisting with luggage when necessary, keeping the vehicle clean, avoiding arguments with passengers, and ensuring that every trip is conducted in a calm and professional manner.
The driver must keep the vehicle clean inside and outside. The car should be washed regularly, the interior must be kept neat, and no smoking, drinking or misuse of the vehicle will be allowed. The driver must immediately report any mechanical issues, warning lights, tyre problems, accident damage or passenger-related incidents.
The driver must follow all road laws, traffic rules and safety requirements. Reckless driving, speeding, harsh braking, illegal parking, drunk driving, drug use, or using the vehicle for unauthorised personal purposes will not be tolerated.
The driver will be expected to work during profitable hours, including peak traffic periods, weekends, evenings, airport demand periods, rainy weather demand and high-demand areas where appropriate. The driver must understand that earnings depend on consistency, discipline and smart positioning.
The driver must keep accurate records of daily earnings, fuel usage, mileage, tolls, platform deductions and any vehicle-related expenses. Weekly reporting may be required.
The driver must protect the vehicle at all times. This includes parking safely, avoiding dangerous areas where possible, locking the vehicle when unattended, not allowing unauthorised people to drive the vehicle, and ensuring that the car is used strictly for approved e-hailing work.
Minimum Requirements
Applicants must have a valid South African driver’s licence and a valid Professional Driving Permit where required. The applicant must have experience driving on Uber, Bolt or another e-hailing platform, or must be willing to complete the necessary onboarding process.
The applicant must have a clean driving record and should not have a history of reckless driving, vehicle abuse or platform bans. Previous e-hailing experience will be highly advantageous.
The applicant must be familiar with Johannesburg, Sandton, Midrand, Waterfall, Rosebank, Pretoria and surrounding areas. The applicant must be able to use GPS navigation confidently and must have a working smartphone with reliable data access.
The applicant must be trustworthy, honest and able to handle cash, digital payments and passenger queries responsibly. Strong communication skills and a professional attitude are essential.
Personal Qualities Required
The successful candidate must be disciplined, patient and hardworking. The driver must be able to work independently without constant supervision, manage time effectively and remain calm under pressure.
The driver must be respectful towards passengers, platform support staff, traffic officials and the vehicle owner. The ideal candidate should be someone who takes pride in good service, safe driving and maintaining a high driver rating.
Vehicle Care Responsibilities
The driver will be responsible for treating the vehicle with care and respect. Any accidents, scratches, dents, tyre damage, mechanical faults or passenger complaints must be reported immediately.
The vehicle may not be used for personal errands, private trips, long-distance travel, lending to another person, racing, towing, transporting illegal goods, or any activity outside the agreed e-hailing work.
The driver must ensure that the vehicle remains fuelled, clean and roadworthy during working hours. Any fines, traffic penalties or damage caused by negligent driving may be the responsibility of the driver, depending on the agreement.
Working Hours
The position requires full-time availability. The driver must be willing to work flexible hours, including early mornings, evenings, weekends and public holidays where necessary.
Preferred working periods include morning peak, afternoon peak, evening demand periods, weekends, airport demand periods and high-demand event periods.
Payment Structure
Payment will be discussed with shortlisted candidates. The structure may be based on a weekly target, commission split, fixed weekly rental arrangement, or another agreed structure.
The driver will be expected to meet reasonable income targets and operate the vehicle consistently. Failure to meet agreed targets without valid reason may lead to review or termination of the arrangement.
Advantageous Experience
Previous experience as an Uber, Bolt, taxi, shuttle, chauffeur, delivery or professional driver will be an advantage. Experience driving a sedan such as a Toyota Corolla Quest, Toyota Corolla, Suzuki Dzire, Kia Pegas, Nissan Almera or similar vehicle will also be beneficial.
