Job description
Engagement: Independent Contractor
Quantic builds point-of-sale software used by hospitality and retail merchants, integrated with card payment terminals and acquiring partners. We're looking for a UI/UX designer who can also build what they design: someone who owns the journey from user research and Figma prototypes through to production-ready front-end code. You'll shape how merchants, staff and partners experience Quantic POS on tablets, terminals, web back-office and mobile.
Key responsibilities
Design and research
- Lead end-to-end design for Quantic POS features, from discovery and user flows to high-fidelity interfaces.
- Conduct user research, usability testing and merchant interviews, and turn findings into clear design decisions.
- Produce wireframes, interactive prototypes and polished UI in Figma, ready for stakeholder review and developer handoff.
- Design for speed and clarity in real-world settings: busy counters, touchscreen terminals and staff with minimal training.
Design system
- Build and maintain a scalable Figma design system, including components, variants, auto layout, variables and design tokens.
- Ensure consistency across POS, back-office web, mobile and partner-branded (white-label) experiences.
- Document usage guidelines so designers and developers can apply the system independently.
Collaboration
- Partner with product, engineering, sales and support teams to understand merchant pain points and priorities.
- Support onboarding and payment-flow improvements, including checkout, settlement, reporting and terminal interfaces.
- Present design work clearly to internal teams and, where appropriate, partners and clients.
Requirements
- 3–5+ years' experience in UI/UX design, with a portfolio showing shipped product work.
- Expert-level Figma skills: components, auto layout, variables, prototyping, Dev Mode and team libraries.
- Strong grasp of UX principles, information architecture, interaction design and accessibility standards (WCAG).
- Experience designing responsive interfaces for touchscreen, tablet and web.
- Ability to explain design rationale clearly to technical and non-technical audiences.
- Comfortable working independently and managing your own time and priorities.
Nice to have
- Experience with POS, fintech, payments or hospitality/retail software.
- Familiarity with payment terminal interfaces (Android-based terminals, PDQ devices) or card payment flows.
- Experience building design systems with design tokens synced to code (e.g. Tokens Studio, Storybook).
- Motion and micro-interaction design (Figma Smart Animate, Lottie, CSS animation).
- Understanding of data protection considerations in UI design (POPIA / GDPR).
Pay: R12 612,33 - R16 612,33 per month
