VACANCY: SECURITY & OHS MANAGER

Location: Hazendal Wine Estate, Stellenbosch

Department: Facilities & Estate Maintenance

Reports To: Facilities Manager

Employment Type: Full-Time

ABOUT THE ROLE

Hazendal Wine Estate is seeking a disciplined, proactive, and experienced Security & OHS Manager to lead an integrated security, occupational health and safety (OHS), compliance, and risk management function across the Estate.

The successful candidate will ensure a safe, secure, legally compliant, and well-managed environment for our guests, Employees, contractors, visitors, and assets, while supporting the Estate's operational and reputational sustainability.

This is a hands-on leadership role requiring an individual who is confident managing a 24/7 security operation, responding to incidents, conducting risk and compliance assessments, managing investigations, and driving continuous improvement.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Security Management

  • Manage and oversee the Estate's day-to-day security operations, including access control, perimeter security, visitor management, and patrols.
  • Lead, manage, train, schedule, and monitor the performance of the security team.
  • Conduct security risk assessments and implement appropriate mitigation measures.
  • Manage external security providers and liaise with law enforcement where required.
  • Develop and maintain security policies, procedures, and protocols.
  • Monitor security performance and provide regular reports to management.
  • Manage the security budget and resources effectively.

Occupational Health & Safety

  • Develop and maintain the Estate's OHS management system in accordance with applicable legislation.
  • Conduct regular risk assessments, inspections, and audits.
  • Investigate workplace accidents, incidents, and near misses and implement corrective measures.
  • Ensure appropriate PPE is available and correctly utilised.
  • Coordinate and facilitate OHS training and awareness programmes.
  • Maintain accurate OHS records and documentation.
  • Liaise with relevant regulatory authorities on OHS matters.

CCTV & Surveillance

  • Oversee the Estate's CCTV operations, maintenance, monitoring, and footage retrieval.
  • Ensure CCTV access and usage comply with privacy and data protection requirements.
  • Maintain appropriate CCTV access records and protocols.
  • Ensure security personnel are adequately trained in CCTV monitoring.

Investigations & Incident Management

  • Conduct thorough and impartial investigations into security breaches, theft, accidents, complaints, and other incidents.
  • Gather evidence, interview relevant parties, and prepare detailed investigation reports.
  • Liaise with law enforcement and other relevant authorities where necessary.
  • Implement preventative and corrective measures following investigations.

Emergency & 24-Hour Response

  • Maintain an effective 24-hour emergency and security response capability.
  • Develop and maintain emergency response plans covering fire, medical emergencies, security threats, and natural disasters.
  • Conduct regular emergency drills and simulations.
  • Coordinate emergency response activities and ensure effective communication during incidents.

Compliance & Risk Management

  • Monitor and ensure compliance with applicable legislation, regulations, standards, and internal policies.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant requirements, including OHS legislation, ESTA, WIETA, IPW, building regulations, food safety and hygiene requirements, liquor licensing, environmental legislation, and consumer protection legislation.
  • Identify compliance vulnerabilities and implement corrective action plans.
  • Conduct internal audits and coordinate external compliance audits.
  • Develop and deliver compliance training across the Estate.

Policy, Reporting & Documentation

  • Develop, review, and implement policies and procedures relating to security, OHS, risk, and compliance.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date compliance and incident documentation.
  • Ensure relevant documentation and records are maintained within the Estate's Asset & Infrastructure Knowledge System (AIKS).
  • Prepare regular reports and presentations for management.
  • Promote a strong culture of accountability, safety, compliance, and continuous improvement.

REQUIREMENTS & EXPERIENCE

  • Relevant qualification in Security Management, Occupational Health & Safety, Risk Management, or a related field.
  • Proven experience in security management and OHS, preferably within a hospitality, agricultural, estate, or similar environment.
  • Experience managing a 24/7 security operation and security personnel.
  • Strong knowledge of OHS legislation and workplace safety requirements.
  • Experience conducting risk assessments, audits, investigations, and incident management.
  • Knowledge of CCTV and access-control systems.
  • Strong understanding of compliance and regulatory requirements.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, organisational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to remain calm and professional under pressure.
  • Computer literacy and strong reporting/documentation skills.
  • Professional and presentable demeanour.
  • Valid driver's licence will be advantageous.

WORKING CONDITIONS

This position requires a flexible working schedule, including evenings, weekends, and public holidays, to support and oversee the Estate's 24/7 security and emergency operations.
