Job Description Key Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the preparation and submission of monthly VAT returns for the OML Group.
  • Assist the VAT Lead with VAT apportionment methodology, improvement, implementation, monitoring, review and compliance in the Old Mutual group.
  • Accountable for reviews of VAT reconciliations and compliance documents. Responsible to ensure VAT Control Accounts are cleared and journals are processed.
  • Capture VAT payments and prepare VAT reconciliation journals to be processed by the business.
  • Reconcile VAT control accounts and clear any outstanding VAT reconciliation items monthly.
  • Ensure compliance & DCT control requirements for applicable VAT processes are adhered to.
  • Monitors monthly VAT compliance within business units and reviews VAT returns for OML subsidiaries.
  • Prepares monthly VAT Dashboard, analytics & reports, including Konsise reporting on a monthly and annual basis. This will entail commentary in respect of variances, maintain key VAT metrics and of VAT returns measures identified.
  • Support the VAT function through the application of data analytics, available tax technology, and systems expertise, ensuring accurate VAT reporting, compliance, process optimization, and inform end decision-making across the business.
  • Perform VAT Health Checks.
  • Assists the VAT Lead with timeously responding to VAT queries (from SARS and business) and VAT ruling applications to SARS.
  • Keeps abreast of all VAT legislation and Interprets the VAT Act.
  • Provides advice and guidance on minimising VAT liabilities.
  • Implements the strategy to minimise tax risk for the organisation.
  • Assists with the development and implementation of Group Tax Policies and Standard Operating Procedures for VAT.
  • Assists and provide input in development and implementation of tax systems planning opportunities for the organisation and ensures that all requirements e.g. data flows/reporting are met for VAT purposes.
  • Identify areas of improvement and assists in developing tax planning opportunities.
  • Assist VAT Lead with VAT registrations and de-registrations applications to SARS
  • Assist VAT Lead with SARS engagements including objections, analyses of transactions and VAT projects

Qualifications, Skills and Experience: Minimum requirements for the role:

  • Relevant qualification in Accounting
  • Completed H Dip Tax/Tax Honours (or study in progress) is advantageous
  • 2 or more years Tax Compliance Experience advantageous
  • Good operational understanding of Financial Services Business and good tax process knowledge is essential.
  • Knowledge of the VAT Act would be advantageous
  • Technology focused problem solving and strong excel skill would be advantageous

This role is responsible for the preparation, calculation, submission, and payment of VAT, performing of VAT Health Checks and VAT reporting. The incumbent is individually accountable for achieving results through own efforts
