Veterinary Public Health Officer (2 posts available in Elsenburg), Ref No. AGR 46/2026

Job Purpose

The Department of Agriculture, Western Cape Government has an opportunity for a suitably qualified and competent individual to monitor and control abattoirs in the Western Cape Province to ensure compliance with the Meat Safety Act, (Act No. 40 of 2000).

Minimum Requirements

Relevant National Diploma in Environmental Health/ Animal Health/ Veterinary Public Health at NQF level 6 as recognised by SAQA; A minimum of 1 year relevant experience; A valid code B (or higher) driving licence.

Key Performance Areas

Inspect abattoirs for compliance with Meat Safety legislation; Audit abattoirs for compliance with Meat Safety legislation; Perform general functions required by the Meat Safety legislation; Contribute to meat safety In the province.

Knowledge of the following: Environmental health legislation and policies; Meat safety legislation and policies; Regulatory framework of the public service; Municipal by-laws that governs matters related to meat safety; Environmental affairs legislation; Food safety risk analysis; Food safe auditing. Remuneration

R 413 001 - R 486 501 per annum (Salary level 8)

Note on remuneration in addition to service benefits or obligations for qualifying employees (medical assistance, housing assistance, pension-fund contributions, etc) are funded or co-funded in terms of the applicable prescripts or collective agreements.
