Remote YouTube Video EditorPosition Overview

I am looking for a creative and reliable YouTube video editor based in South Africa to join me as a long-term remote team member.

The channel focuses on challenge, adventure, travel and personality-driven long-form videos. The editing style should combine strong storytelling, fast pacing, humour, tension and clear viewer retention.

This is not a once-off freelance project. I am looking for someone who can grow with the channel, understand my style and become an important part of the creative process. With exciting long term goals and achievements.

Role

Position: YouTube Video Editor
Location: Remote — South Africa
Employment type: Part-time initially, with potential to become full-time
Working hours: Approximately 20–25 hours per week
Start date: To be agreed
Probation period: Three months

Key Responsibilities

• Organise and review raw video footage
• Build strong story-driven rough cuts
• Edit long-form YouTube videos from start to finish
• Improve pacing, audience retention and emotional progression
• Select the strongest moments from the footage
• Add music, sound effects, captions, graphics and visual effects
• Create engaging hooks and opening sequences
• Use B-roll, maps, animations and supporting visuals where required
• Complete revisions based on feedback
• Export final videos in the correct YouTube format
• Create short-form clips from long-form videos when required
• Maintain organised project files and backups
• Meet agreed deadlines consistently

Editing Style

The channel is influenced by:

• Ryan Trahan-style journey storytelling
• Sidemen-style humour and challenges
• MrBeast-style stakes, pacing and retention
• Personality-driven adventure content

The videos should feel energetic and entertaining without becoming over-edited or artificial.

Requirements

• Strong experience editing long-form YouTube videos
• Good understanding of storytelling and audience retention
• Proficiency in Adobe Premiere Pro, DaVinci Resolve or Final Cut Pro
• Strong music selection and sound-design skills
• Ability to edit 4K footage
• Reliable computer and internet connection
• Excellent communication and time-management skills
• Ability to receive feedback and make revisions
• Strong attention to detail
• Good spoken and written English
• Based in South Africa

Preferred Experience

• Experience editing challenge, travel or adventure videos
• Experience working with YouTube creators
• Understanding of YouTube analytics and viewer retention
• Basic motion-graphics or After Effects skills
• Experience creating YouTube Shorts
• Familiarity with GoPro and mobile-phone footage
