BARISTA / WAITER

Main Purpose of the Job

We are seeking a skilled, energetic and personable Barista/Waiter to join our clubhouse team and deliver a consistently high standard of food, beverage and coffee service to our residents.

The successful candidate will play an important role in creating a warm, welcoming and professional clubhouse environment. The position requires someone who enjoys interacting with people, takes pride in their work and understands that excellent service goes beyond simply taking an order.

You will be expected to work as part of a team, take ownership of your responsibilities and be proactive in assisting with the day-to-day operation of the clubhouse, including resident service, events, functions and clubhouse setups.

Responsibilities & Duties

• Welcome residents and provide warm, professional and attentive service throughout their visit.
• Present menus, explain daily specials and menu changes, and confidently take food and beverage orders.
• Accurately capture orders and special dietary requirements on the POS system and communicate these to the kitchen.
• Prepare and serve quality coffee and beverages according to resident preferences, recipes and required standards.
• Provide efficient table service, including clearing tables, replenishing utensils and responding promptly to resident requests.
• Identify opportunities to upsell food and beverage items while maintaining a genuine service approach.
• Assist with the daily opening and closing of the clubhouse, including maintaining a clean, organised and service-ready environment.
• Assist with clubhouse setups, events and functions, including moving tables, chairs and other furniture as required.
• Work closely with waiters, bar staff, kitchen staff and management to ensure smooth operations and a positive resident experience.
• Assist across the clubhouse when required and take ownership of assigned duties, procedures and responsibilities.

What We're Looking For

We are looking for someone who brings energy to the floor, takes pride in their work and is not afraid to get involved when the clubhouse gets busy.

The ideal candidate will have:

• 2–3 years' previous experience in a waiter, barista, restaurant or hospitality environment.
• The ability to prepare quality coffee consistently and according to recognised barista/hospitality standards.
• A naturally friendly, energetic and engaging personality, with a genuine interest in interacting with residents.
• A proactive approach — someone who sees what needs to be done and gets involved, rather than waiting to be instructed.
• The ability to work efficiently and remain composed during busy services, events and functions.
• A good level of physical stamina, as the role involves extended periods of standing and walking, as well as assisting with moving tables, chairs and other furniture for clubhouse setups and events.
• The ability to lift, carry and move routine stock and equipment safely as required within the normal duties of the position.
• Basic knowledge of cocktails and wines.
• Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
• A genuine customer-service orientation and a professional approach to dealing with residents.
• The ability to maintain positive and professional working relationships with colleagues across different departments.
• The ability to handle resident complaints or concerns calmly, professionally and appropriately.
• The ability to follow instructions, procedures and reasonable directions from the Clubhouse Manager.
• Strong attention to detail when taking orders, processing POS transactions and capturing special requests.
• Punctuality, reliability and self-discipline.
• A professional appearance and consistently positive attitude.
• Hospitality, food service or barista qualifications would be advantageous.
• Previous experience in a residential, retirement, hotel, restaurant or similar service environment would be advantageous.

Transport & Availability

• Reliable transport is essential for this position.
• Due to the clubhouse's location and limited public transport availability in the area, the successful candidate must have a reliable means of getting to and from work and be able to consistently arrive for scheduled shifts on time.
• The successful candidate must be able to work according to the clubhouse roster, including weekends, evenings and special events where required.
• Applicants are responsible for making their own reliable travel arrangements to and from the workplace.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: R6 500,00 - R7 000,00 per month
