Job description
Key Duties
- Assist with daily warehouse operations for HMV Brand and third-party clients at Stellenzicht and Bonte Rivier.
- Picking and preparation of all wine orders
- Support the movement, storage, and dispatch of wine stock under the guidance of the Warehouse Manager.
- Operate forklift and assist with loading/unloading vehicles safely.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of warehouse areas.
- Assist with monthly stocktakes and routine inventory checks.
- Perform basic vehicle and forklift checks and report maintenance needs.
- Provide general support to warehouse team and drivers.
Knowledge – Education and Qualifications
- Education: Matric/Grade 12 or equivalent qualification.
- Certifications/Licenses: Valid Driver’s License (Truck license advantageous), Valid Forklift License.
- Other Qualifications: Basic knowledge of South African wine regulations (SAWIS) beneficial
Knowledge – Experience
- Required Experience: 1–2 years in a warehouse or logistics role.
- Preferred Experience: Experience in wine industry or related distribution/retail environment.
Knowledge – Skills and Competencies
- Technical/Professional Skills: Basic proficiency in computer literacy, Forklift operation skills.
- Behavioural Competencies: Attention to detail, Reliability and teamwork, Willingness to learn and follow instructions.
- Communication Skills: Ability to understand and carry out instructions clearly, Basic communication with team members and clients when required
- Languages: English and Afrikaans (spoken)
Problem Solving (Complexity)
- Routine problem-solving related to warehouse tasks (e.g., locating stock, handling minor discrepancies).
- Escalates non-routine issues (e.g., stock variances, scheduling conflicts) to Warehouse Manager.
- Applies standard operating procedures and follows supervisor guidance.
Decision-Making (Judgement & Autonomy)
- Works under direct supervision of Warehouse Manager.
- Day-to-day decisions limited to routine tasks (e.g., safe forklift operation, organizing stock)
- Escalates purchasing, scheduling, and financial decisions to management
Pressure of Work
- Daily tasks structured but may require flexibility due to urgent deliveries or stock movements.
- Assists during peak periods (Oct–Dec wine sales, July–Nov bottling season, month-end stocktakes).
- Handles interruptions and multiple priorities under Warehouse Manager’s direction.
Comprehension / Communication
- Communicates primarily with warehouse team and drivers.
- Occasional contact with clients regarding collections/deliveries
- Adequate communication skills required to report progress and issues
