Warehouse Team Leader

Hendok has an exciting opportunity in our Dispatch Department. We are looking for a talented individual with relevant skills and experience for Warehouse Team Leader. The successful candidates will report directly to Dispatch Manager.

Key Purpose

Oversee and co-ordinate the daily operations of the warehouse. Primary focus will be on the efficient and safe handling, storage, and dispatch of products. Lead a team, enforce safety protocols, and optimize warehouse processes to ensure the timely and accurate delivery of products to customers.

Responsibilities

• Ensure all loads allocated at the start of the shift are correctly picked, loaded, and invoiced before shift end to meet tonnage targets and loading plans.
• Oversee and verify that stock picked and loaded matches the picking sheet and instructions given to the forklift driver.
• Provide professionally picked, secured, and accurate loads to drivers and customers.
• Handle complaints, address challenges, and work with management on action plans to improve profitability and customer service.
• Lead and guide the team in stock picking and loading to reduce truck turnaround times.
• Identify opportunities to improve picking and loading efficiency.
• Coach, motivate, and recognize team performance constructively.
• Address performance concerns respectfully and promptly.
• Prioritize, delegate, and follow up on short-term tasks and duties.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with customers and internal departments.
• Ensure a safe working environment through compliance with Safety and Health legislation.

Key attributes and competencies

• Positive, action-oriented, and customer-focused, with strong organizational, multitasking, and time management skills
• Proven warehouse experience in the metal industry or similar environment, including handling heavy unboxed products stored at ground level and on racking
• Strong leadership ability with experience leading shop floor teams, driving teamwork, monitoring performance, providing feedback, and resolving conflict
• Detail-oriented, flexible, and hands-on, with the ability to adapt and ensure operational demands are met
• Skilled in setting priorities, implementing procedures, and making sound decisions aligned to company strategy
• Proficient in warehouse systems linked to scanners, with the ability to capture, retrieve, and analyse data
• Effective communicator with a solid understanding of Safety and Health legislation

Qualifications / Experience

• Matric / Grade 12 / NCV 4 with Math’s or Accounting
• NQF 4 Stores and Warehouse or Operations Management (Minimum of a National Certificate)
• Computer Literate especially basic MS EXCEL and Outlook
• Forklift license
• Ability to work shifts
• 3 – 5 years’ experience in a similar environment
