Job description
bout Zibuke OnCall
Zibuke OnCall as a home services company that protects homeowners against the financial risk of unexpected repairs, offering 4
package plans under one roof, with the convenience of a subscription service that provides peace of mind.
What You Will Do
You will conduct detailed visual and physical inspections to find the exact point where water enters a building. You will inspect pitched roofs including
tiled, metal sheeting, and slate systems. You will inspect flat roofs including concrete slabs, balconies, and parapet junctions. You will determine
whether a leak comes from a primary or secondary source and trace concealed moisture pathways through the building structure.
You will operate diagnostic instruments including digital moisture meters, thermal imaging cameras, and infrared scanners to locate hidden water damage
behind ceilings, inside wall cavities, and under flooring. You will interpret thermal images, separate moisture signatures from thermal bridging effects,
and produce diagnostic reports with photographic evidence and moisture data readings.
You will set up and monitor structural flood testing on flat concrete slabs to confirm whether a waterproofing membrane can withstand hydrostatic
pressure. You will carry out controlled water ponding procedures, inspect the underside of slabs for moisture seepage, and record every observation. You
will also perform high-voltage and low-voltage Electronic Leak Detection vector mapping to pinpoint membrane breaches with precision.
You will identify leaks that result from structural problems such as sagging timber trusses that create ponding zones, cracked or deteriorated valley
linings, and failed parapet wall flashings caused by differential movement. You will evaluate the full building envelope and recommend structural repairs
where waterproofing alone cannot solve the problem.
You will supervise and assign daily tasks to a team of 2 to 5 junior applicators, labourers, and assistants. You will organise the daily workflow, assign
tasks based on skill level, monitor progress, and adjust task allocation as site conditions change.
You will oversee the mixing, preparation, and application of all waterproofing materials. You will ensure the team follows manufacturer specifications and
SANS 10400 building guidelines. You will verify correct mixing ratios, confirm proper substrate preparation, monitor application temperatures and weather
conditions, and inspect completed work for defects. You will reject substandard work and require reapplication when quality falls below acceptable
standards.
You will enforce strict compliance with Personal Protective Equipment requirements at all times. Every team member must wear hard hats, safety boots,
gloves, eye protection, and high-visibility clothing. You will enforce Working at Heights safety protocols including harness inspection and fitting,
lifeline anchor point verification, scaffolding safety checks, and edge protection requirements. You will conduct daily safety briefings, identify
site-specific hazards, and maintain a safety-first culture on every project.
You will provide hands-on mentorship and practical skills transfer to junior apprentices on site. You will demonstrate correct techniques, supervise
practice with constructive feedback, and conduct progressive skill assessment. Training priorities include material handling and mixing procedures,
membrane application techniques, substrate preparation standards, safe tool operation, and diagnostic observation skills.
You will personally execute high-skill repair work including precision torch-on bitumen membrane applications, complex counter-flashing installations, and
heat-welded PVC and TPO single-ply membrane applications. You will demonstrate mastery across liquid-applied membranes, sheet membrane systems, and
cementitious coatings.
You will seal vulnerable roof penetrations including skylights and roof windows, solar panel mounting brackets and rail systems, chimney stacks and
fireplace penetrations, ventilation pipes and mechanical penetrations, and internal drainage outlets such as box gutters, scuppers, and siphonic drains.
You will ensure surfaces are correctly prepared before any waterproofing application. You will supervise and personally verify all substrate preparation
activities including high-pressure washing, mechanical grinding, concrete screed levelling, and primer application. You will confirm that substrates are
dry, clean, sound, and properly profiled before authorising any membrane application.
You will measure roof areas accurately using standard survey techniques and compile detailed material take-offs. You will account for waste factors,
overlap allowances, and contingency quantities in all estimates. You will identify and document any additional work outside the original scope and
communicate variations promptly to the project manager.
You will maintain accurate digital or physical job cards documenting the root cause of each leak, the exact materials used, and the hours worked by each
team member. You will complete job cards in real time during the project to ensure all entries are contemporaneous and verifiable.
You will act as the primary Zibuke OnCall representative on site. You will explain the cause of leaks in clear non-technical language, walk clients
through the proposed repair process, provide realistic timelines, and manage client handovers upon completion.
You will take clear well-organised before, during, and after photographs of all repair work. You will ensure photographs are properly labelled with
project references, dates, and location identifiers, and submit all photographic documentation promptly upon project completion.
Qualifications and Requirements
You must hold CETA and SAQA trade-tested certification in Waterproofing. No equivalent qualifications will be accepted. You must have a minimum of 5 years
of practical waterproofing experience across multiple roofing systems. You must hold a valid South African Identity Document or permanent residency with
work authorisation. You must have a clear criminal record. A background check will be conducted. You must be physically fit and able to work at heights
for extended periods. You must have your own reliable transport or be willing to travel to multiple sites nationwide.
Desirable Competencies
Experience with thermal imaging cameras, digital moisture meters, and Electronic Leak Detection equipment is advantageous. A working knowledge of SANS
10400 building regulations and OHSA construction standards is advantageous. Previous supervisory experience leading teams of 2 to 5 workers on
construction sites is advantageous. Proficiency in torch-on bitumen, PVC and TPO heat-welded, and liquid-applied membrane systems is advantageous. Strong
communication skills for client interaction and site coordination are advantageous. Basic digital literacy for job card completion and photographic
documentation is advantageous.
Personal Attributes
You must be detail oriented with a commitment to diagnostic accuracy and quality excellence. You must have a safety conscious mindset with zero tolerance
for OHSA violations. You must be patient and effective as a mentor who can develop junior team members on site. You must maintain a professional demeanour
for client facing interactions and site representation. You must be resilient and adaptable to varying site conditions, weather, and project demands.
How to Apply
Interested candidates who meet the above requirements are invited to submit their applications via the Indeed platform. Applications must include a
comprehensive CV detailing waterproofing trade experience, certified copies of CETA and SAQA trade-test certification, a copy of your South African ID
document, and at least two contactable references from previous employers in the construction or waterproofing industry.
