Job description
Web Development Specialist | Remote | Full-time
We're a UK agency with a team in South Africa, and we're hiring a Web Development Specialist to join us. The role is fully remote, and we'd particularly like to hear from candidates based in SA.
This is a hands-on build role. You'll be working across client websites from first line of code to launch and beyond, turning brand guidelines and marketing objectives into sites that actually perform.
What the job looks like day to day
Building front-end interfaces that hold up on every screen size. Writing back-end functionality that does what it's supposed to. Integrating third-party APIs. Fixing the thing that broke at 4pm on a Thursday. Testing, deploying, monitoring, and telling us when there's a better way to do something.
You'll work closely with designers, marketers and account managers across both offices, so you need to be able to explain technical decisions to people who don't write code. The time difference between the UK and SA is small, so there's plenty of crossover in the day, but you'll still need to be self-directed and good at keeping people in the loop without being chased.
What we're looking for
- Confident across multiple CMS platforms. WordPress, Wix and Shopify as a baseline, with the flexibility to pick up others as clients bring them to us
- Strong front-end skills. HTML, CSS, JavaScript and responsive frameworks, with real attention to how a build looks and behaves, not just whether it works
- Solid back-end capability. Server-side languages, databases, and API integration
- A genuine eye for design. You can take a layout from a designer and build it properly, and you'll spot when something is 4px off
- Web fundamentals nailed down. Cross-browser compatibility, performance optimisation, security best practice and version control with Git
- Clear communicator. Good documentation, straight answers, no jargon walls
- A portfolio of live sites you can talk us through
Nice to have
- Agency experience and the pace that comes with it
- SEO-friendly development practice
- Proficient in Computer Science, Web Development or similar, though a strong body of work counts for just as much
- Fluent English
If you've built a lot of sites, care about the details, and want to work somewhere your ideas get heard rather than filed, send us your CV and a few links to work you're proud of.
Apply below or drop us a message.
Pay: R30 000,00 - R40 000,00 per month
