JOB SPECIFICATION: WEEKEND AND RELIEF CHILD CAREGIVER
Location: Pinehaven
Position type: Weekend, public-holiday and relief caregiver
Accommodation: Sleepover required during scheduled shifts
Purpose of the position
A reliable, patient and experienced child caregiver is required to care for twins in a private household. The successful candidate will work every weekend and on public holidays and must also be available when the primary caregiver is unavailable.
Minimum requirements
* Preferably between 35 and 50 years old.
* At least three years’ verifiable experience caring for children.
* Previous experience caring for twins or two young children simultaneously will be strongly preferred.
* Must genuinely love children and be comfortable caring for twins.
* Must be able to communicate effectively in Setswana, Sepedi or Sesotho.
* Must have a clean criminal record and be willing to undergo a criminal-record check.
* Must provide contactable childcare references.
* Must be willing and able to sleep over at the family’s home during scheduled shifts.
* Must be available to work every weekend and on public holidays.
* Must be available to provide relief care when the primary caregiver is unavailable.
* Basic first-aid training will be advantageous.
Key responsibilities
* Provide attentive, responsible and age-appropriate care to the twins.
* Prepare and serve meals and snacks according to the parents’ instructions.
* Assist with bathing, dressing, bedtime and the children’s daily routine.
* Supervise playtime and age-appropriate activities.
* Maintain a clean, hygienic and safe environment for the children.
* Clean and organise the children’s rooms, clothing, toys and eating areas.
* Monitor the children’s health, behaviour and general wellbeing.
* Follow all household rules, routines and instructions given by the parents.
* Immediately report any illness, injury, incident or concern to the parents.
* Respect the family’s privacy and keep all household information confidential.

* Patient, caring and emotionally mature.
* Observant and attentive to detail.
* Reliable and punctual.
* Honest and responsible.
* Calm when dealing with difficult situations.
* Able to work independently and follow instructions.
* Committed to the children’s safety and wellbeing.
Working arrangements
The caregiver will be required to work and sleep over every weekend and on public holidays. She must also be reasonably available when the primary caregiver is absent. Exact starting and finishing times, remuneration, rest periods and other employment conditions will be agreed upon in writing.
