Kumba Iron Ore

We produce high-grade iron ore, the key component in steel widely used in construction and manufacturing across the world. Our activities include all aspects – exploration; mining; processing and blending; shipping; marketing and selling. In South Africa, we have mining operations in the Northern Cape province, as well as a head office in Rosebank, Gauteng, and a port operation in Saldanha Bay, Western Cape.

Job Description

As Welder your responsibilities will include but not limited to:

Safety, Health, and Environment:

• Adhere to all health and safety practices and requirements.
• Promote good housekeeping to ensure compliance and an environment where team members can deliver their outputs within a controlled risk environment.

Equipment Control:

• Ensure effective plant equipment and related machinery maintenance to ensure optimal utilisation and availability toward maximising production and throughput schedules.
• Identify and report defects, equipment failures and time required to repair the Supervisor to enable applicable decision-making, action planning and problem resolution.

Maintenance Efficiency:

• Support plant personnel by ensuring that the necessary plant and equipment maintenance preparations and maintenance tasks are done following SMP (Standard Maintenance Practice) to improve work practices and operational targets.
• Ensure installations, commissioning of infrastructure and post-installation work testing for functionality are executed following specifications to meet deadlines and budget requirements.
• Continuously monitor maintenance progress and related preparation activities against planned schedules to meet operational targets, minimise downtime, enable timely reporting and enhance plant efficiency.

Assistance:

• Assist the supervisor and co-workers according to their level/area of competence and follow company policies when instructed or during the responsible person's absence to ensure the achievement of functional objectives.

People Development:

• Identify and utilise on-the-job learning opportunities to achieve the required competency levels stipulated in training modules, according to budget and timeframe requirements.
• Ensure accurate and understandable information, provide regular feedback, and monitor progress to develop and equip learners/team members with the necessary competencies.

This role is in Engineering & Maintenance HME/Plant (ENG) department on a Band J4 (C-Lower) level reporting to the Engineering Supervisor Platework.

Qualifications

• Grade 12 (National Senior Certificate, NQF Level 4) or equivalent SAQA-recognised qualification
• Trade Certificate as a Welder
• Forklift Licence (advantageous)
• Overhead Crane Licence (advantageous)
• SA Drivers Licence

Technical Knowledge

• 2 Years’ operational experience as a Welder
• Safety standards
• Mining equipment and machines
• Welding techniques and methodologies
• Company Policies and Procedures
