Role Description The Winding Engine Driver role is a full-time, on-site position based at the Galaxy Gold Reefs mine in Mpumalanga, South Africa. The Winding Engine Driver is responsible for operating and monitoring the winding engines that transport personnel, materials, and ore through mine shafts. Day-to-day tasks include controlling hoisting equipment, following precise signals and schedules, performing routine checks on machinery, and recording operational data. The role involves working closely with shaft personnel and maintenance teams to ensure safe, efficient movement underground, strictly following safety procedures and emergency protocols. The Winding Engine Driver is expected to maintain a high level of attention to detail, respond promptly to instructions, and report any mechanical or safety issues immediately.

Qualifications

• Relevant experience in operating heavy machinery or hoisting equipment in an industrial or mining environment, with strong mechanical awareness.
• Communication and customer service skills to accurately follow instructions, coordinate with shaft and control room teams, and support safe movement of personnel.
• Experience with truck or similar vehicle operation; Truck Driving and CDL Class A (or equivalent heavy vehicle certification) are advantageous for understanding load handling and safety.
• Strong commitment to safety, including adherence to mine safety regulations, emergency procedures, and reporting protocols.
• Ability to remain focused during repetitive tasks, work shifts and weekends as required, and perform under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
• Basic numeracy and literacy for reading gauges, logs, and operational instructions; prior mining or shaft operation experience is a strong advantage.
• Relevant vocational training or certification in winding engine operation, hoisting, or mining operations preferred, in line with local regulatory requirements.
