Job description
Responsibilities:
- Plan, schedule, and monitor preventative maintenance and repair work for the fleet.
- Ensure maximum fleet availability by minimizing vehicle downtime.
- Supervise workshop staff, including mechanics, artisans, apprentices, and support personnel.
- Allocate work effectively to ensure productivity and quality workmanship.
- Diagnose complex mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic faults on PBS trucks and trailers.
- Ensure all repairs comply with manufacturer specifications and company standards.
- Monitor and control workshop productivity, efficiency, and turnaround times.
- Control spare parts inventory and ensure timely procurement of required parts.
- Liaise with suppliers and service providers regarding repairs, warranties, and technical support.
- Ensure all vehicles comply with roadworthy requirements and legal regulations.
- Maintain accurate maintenance records, service histories, inspection reports, and workshop documentation.
- Implement and enforce preventative maintenance programmes.
- Ensure compliance with health, safety, environmental, and company policies.
- Conduct regular inspections of workshop equipment and facilities.
- Investigate vehicle breakdowns and implement corrective actions to prevent repeat failures.
- Provide technical support to operations and fleet management teams.
- Monitor fuel efficiency, tyre management, and component life where applicable.
- Train, mentor, and develop workshop employees to improve technical skills and performance.
- Requirements
- Minimum 5 years' experience in a heavy commercial vehicle workshop.
- At least 3 years' experience in a workshop management or supervisory role.
- Extensive experience working on PBS trucks, side tippers, and heavy commercial trailers.
- Strong knowledge of Cummins, Volvo, Scania, Mercedes-Benz, MAN, or similar heavy-duty truck systems.
- Experience with preventative maintenance systems.
- Computer literate (Microsoft Office and fleet/workshop management software).
- Valid Code EC driver's licence (advantageous).
- Strong understanding of health and safety legislation.
