Position: Young Engineers Tutor / Instructor (Casual)
Business Unit: Young Engineers
Location: Cape Town Central
ROLE PURPOSE
The Young Engineers Tutor is responsible for delivering fun, engaging, and educational extramural STEM programmes to children in Grades RR–7. The role focuses on developing learners’ tactile, motor, spatial, and problem-solving skills through hands-on activities involving engineering concepts, robotics, coding, and building blocks, while creating a positive and inspiring learning environment.
KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES1. Programme Delivery & Lesson Facilitation
- Prepare lesson plans in advance to ensure smooth and engaging sessions.
- Deliver interactive STEM lessons at schools and learning centres.
- Facilitate hands-on activities involving model building, robotics, and basic coding.
- Adapt lessons to suit different age groups and learning abilities.
2. Learner Engagement & Support
- Encourage creativity, teamwork, and critical thinking among learners.
- Provide guidance and support to learners during activities and challenges.
- Maintain a safe, inclusive, and positive learning environment at all times.
3. Holiday Programmes & Events
- Facilitate Young Engineers Holiday Programmes.
- Support and run Birthday Parties and special events when required.
4. Operations & Administration Support
- Ensure correct use, care, and storage of programme equipment and materials.
- Provide feedback on lesson outcomes, attendance, and learner engagement.
- Communicate effectively with coordinators, schools, and parents where required.
REQUIREMENTS
- A strong interest in STEM, robotics, LEGO® engineering, or coding.
- Previous experience working with children (teaching, tutoring, coaching, workshops, or similar).
- A valid driver’s licence.
- A recent police clearance (or willingness to obtain one).
- Confident, reliable, energetic, and an excellent communicator.
- Availability for a casual role with flexible working hours during school terms.
- Willingness to learn — no prior engineering qualification required. Full training and resources will be provided.

- This role is not limited to the duties listed above and may be adjusted in line with operational needs.
- The Tutor holds a position of trust and is expected to act professionally, ethically, and in the best interests of the learners and the organisation.
