 A well\-established manufacturing operation in Greylingstad is seeking a reliable and safety\-conscious Boiler Operator to join its production team. The successful candidate will be responsible for the safe and efficient operation of a 10\-ton coal\-fired boiler, ensuring uninterrupted steam supply to production while maintaining high standards of quality, safety, housekeeping, and compliance.
   

  

**POSITION INFO:**
 Duties \& Responsibilities Operations Be able to start up boiler fire properly. Monitor water holding JoJo tanks hourly and keep them full of water at all times. Monitor low level water alarm on your hotwell tank. Complete daily boiler maintenance checklist and ensure supervisor signed it after completion. Adjust coal bed as and when required. Close valves and stop supply of steam to production when boiler is not running for minimum 30 minutes due to power outage or breakdown and maintain steam. Change the use of coal screw conveyor weekly with the standby screw conveyor. Keep coal water bath clean and at right level all the time. Keep boiler drains clean all the time. Change the use of boiler water pump weekly with the standby pump. Ensure safety by monitoring safety equipment, identifying potential issues and taking appropriate steps to suspend the operation with consultation with your shift supervisor\\/maintenance team. Maintain steam pressure for production operation as per steam demand for processing. Continuously communicate with the production operator on steam demand hourly. Monitor and control boiler performance and settings by reading gauges, meters and charts to track boiler operation. Monitor boiler water and chemicals and coal levels hourly. Maintain the housekeeping of boiler room\\/area all the time. Monitor your stocker movement every hour to ensure it is still aligned on its path. Receive delivery of coal and inspect whether it complies with Grade A pea size specifications without excessive duff\\/loose powder before tipping. Inform your shift supervisor if coal delivered is out of specification. Keep your coal bund pit full at all times. Report low coal levels to your shift supervisor for ordering. Ensure sufficient coal stock is available to last at least two days. Grease boiler components that require greasing. If unsure, ask the maintenance team to show you the greasing points. Update log sheet\\/book hourly. Perform soot blowing. Blow down the boilers as instructed by the guideline to remove impurities. Monitor water level and temperature in the hotwell tank hourly. Continuously check blowdown valve to avoid blockages. Ensure water treatment and sampling is conducted to prevent boiler damage. Trim coal and remove ash from grit arrester. Remove ash trolley as and when required. Clean the brine tank and water filter. Clean grit collector. Ensure plant equipment hygiene is of top quality. Ensure compliance with AEL licence requirements under the boiler section. Provide a written handover to the next shift. Follow the boiler operating procedure by conducting blowdowns, doing TDS tests and recording results during your shift. Ensure boiler softener system is working correctly. Keep all boilers clean and shiny. Clean boiler tubes after every three months. Ensure Mobrey automatic water level controller is functioning correctly. If not, report to your shift supervisor and maintenance team. Be able to bank the fire. Replace broken links and rods on your stocker. Quality Ensure coal received complies with Grade A pea size specifications. Policy Ensure you follow and apply company policies in your work area. Safety Ensure you use the correct PPE provided. * To manage the engineering maintenance processes within the appointed area of responsibility to enable various mining teams to reach production targets within the principles of QCDSM


 Key Accountabilities
   

  

* Manage and carry out engineering and maintenance strategies and overhaul plans on a day to day basis that ensure that departments KPI's are met, including the manufacture of new items and when to replace / repair equipment.
* Manage Operational budget including maintenance and operational costs in appointed area Ensure availability of equipment by effectively managing downtime (infrastructure and inspection equipment).
* Ensure adherence to maintenance programme.
* Implements operational projects, ensures engineering compliance, develops and implements engineering Standard Operating Procedures (SOP in appointed area of responsibility.
* Ensures adherence to Engineering principles and legislation.
* Compliance to engineering governance bodies (standardization committees) SOP/PTO / COP implementation and adherence.
* Ensure compliance with the Welding standards
* Assess economics / engineering viability of major engineering business cases and provides specific, inspection expertise and coaching.
* Manage delivery against OE/BI initiatives.
* Carry out condition monitoring programs in appointed area of responsibility.
* Compliance to Condition monitoring program schedules.
* Conduct failure trend analysis and root cause elimination.
* Execution of Predictive Maintenance recommendations (backlog).
* Support departments to achieve set targets by coordinating planning within appointed area of responsibility.
* Ensure effective short and long term planning in conjunction with the Mines
* Ensuring proper liaising with other departments for a smooth manufacturing and refurbishment flow
* Control costs to ensure production volumes are achieved within budget.
* Drive the machine cost and $/barrel cost saving actions
* Ensure best in class safety performance and continuous improvement of key safety metrics to maintain required RCR.
* Ensure SHE compliance rates vs. targets (especially major findings, % outstanding actions on findings) Zero harm, Zero fatalities, LWDC rate
* Ensure effective recruitment, training, coaching and career development.
* Manage vacancy rates against staff establishment (vacancies incl. Absence due to TSD / PSD, AWOP, Successors for critical positions).
* Manage team bearing in mind key role turnover rate vs. industry average, absenteeism, employee engagement and enablement score (%, Tons/man/year, Monthly bonus targets) training days for department.
* Perform CCVs on critical tasks.

**Position Purpose:** 

The boilermaker tradesman is responsible for fabrication duties in the manufacturing process and uses technical drawings and various tools to fabricate to the required standard.

**Duties and Responsibilities**:

* Evaluating all engineering drawings and ensuring implementation according to fabrication specifications.
* Analyzing diagrams and specification and cut all metal accordingly with the help of fabrication equipment.
* Performing all fabrications and supporting tasks to the required fabrication tolerances.
* Cutting, bending and shaping material as per the product requirements.
* Locating and marking bending and cutting lines onto the work piece.
* Marking off, drilling and punching holes.
* Setting up and operating fabricating machines, such as brakes, rolls, shears, flame cutters, and drill presses.
* Preparing material for welding by means of grinding, cutting and assembling.
* Distinguishing between the various types of material in fabrication in preparation for the job.
* Fabricating and tack welding components in preparation for welding.
* Evaluating fabrication and adding stiffness for welding.
* Performing work with the help of various hand and power tools.
* Straightening parts and components after welding.
* Removing of tack marks from components.
* Using the grinder to remove slack and bevels from the welded work piece.
* Completion and signing of the inspection report.
* Ensuring that the work piece is welded strong enough prior to lifting it.
* Using cutting torches and quick cutters correctly and in a safe manner.
* Levelling jig tables and work pieces.
* Evaluating finished products and perform quality checks on products.
* Verifying the conformance of the work piece to specifications, using a range of measuring instruments.
* Reporting any variances or defects by means of the quality management systems.
* Performing modification and repair work if required.
* Inspecting cutting torches, gauges, fittings and hoses for leaks.
* Ensuring that the required Housekeeping and Health and Safety requirements are met.
* You will be required to perform any additional and lawful duties that might not be listed in the job description, but which falls within your grade or grades below as and when required.
* Ensuring compliance to QMS standards.

**Qualifications:**

* The candidate must be a qualified Red Seal Boilermaker.

**Experience:**

* At least five years’ experience in a medium to heavy fabrication environment.
* Experience in the manufacturing of vibrating and crushing machines advantageous.

**Character:**

* Attention to detail and accuracy in task execution.

**Other:**

* The ability to read and interpret drawings.
* The ability to use a variety of measuring instruments.
* Proven track record in CO₂, Stick Welding and a Plasma Torch.
* Knowledge of dumpier Levels.
* Willingness to work shifts.
