Join our production team as an Assistant Fumigation Specialist and play a vital role in ensuring premium blueberry quality for local and export markets.
As an Assistant Fumigation Specialist, you will support fumigation and post-harvest processes to preserve blueberry quality and extend shelf life. This hands-on role involves assisting with SO₂ fumigation treatments, quality inspections, compliance monitoring, and maintaining high food safety standards.
Key Responsibilities Fumigation Operations
- Assist with SO₂ fumigation treatments and monitoring
- Prepare storage areas and equipment
- Ensure proper placement and use of fumigation systems
- Monitor treatment conditions and report deviations
Quality Control
- Inspect fruit before and after fumigation
- Monitor firmness, bloom, and decay levels
- Identify and report quality issues
- Ensure export and customer standards are met
Health, Safety & Compliance
- Follow strict OHS and food safety standards
- Handle chemicals safely using PPE
- Monitor SO₂ levels in work areas
- Participate in safety protocols and emergency procedures
Documentation & Reporting
- Maintain accurate treatment and inspection records
- Complete daily operational logs
- Support traceability and audit requirements
Operational Support
- Assist packing and cold storage teams
- Support stock and storage activities
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives
- Provide additional support during peak seasons
Requirements
Minimum Requirements
- Grade 12 / Senior Certificate
- 1–3 years’ experience in agriculture, packhouses, cold storage, or post-harvest operations
- Basic knowledge of fumigation practices and chemical safety
- Experience in blueberries, citrus, grapes, or deciduous fruit (advantageous)
- Exposure to fumigation, QC, or food safety systems (beneficial)
- Valid driver’s license (preferred)
