Job description
The School of Law invites applications from suitably qualified and experienced legal practitioners for the position of Attorney in the Law Clinic/Lecturer. The successful candidate must qualify to engage in and supervise candidate attorneys in accordance with applicable legal and regulatory requirements. In addition to Law Clinic responsibilities, the incumbent will contribute to the School of Law through teaching (at a reduced load), scholarly research, academic development and mentoring, participation in the administration of teaching and learning activities and the delivery of relevant community engagement initiatives.
Minimum requirements
- A Master’s degree in Law (LLM) (or approved equivalent qualification)
- Qualifies as a Principal Attorney in terms of the Legal Practice Act
- A minimum of one year’s relevant experience in either teaching, lecturing or research in academia in the relevant field or discipline
- A minimum of one year’s relevant industry experience acting as a Principal Attorney
- Understanding of departmental functioning in the Law Clinic
- Good knowledge of the academic discipline environment
- Understanding of the Higher Education environment
- Knowledge of research methodology
- Involvement in professional activities
- Computer proficiency
