This is a fast-paced environment with high-energy seasonal periods, particularly during the busy summer hospitality season. The successful candidate must therefore be able to work independently, maintain meticulous attention to detail and remain composed under pressure.

The Role

The Bookkeeper will be responsible for:

  • Maintaining accurate accounting records and supporting schedules.
  • Daily reconciliation and monitoring of software integrations.
  • Reconciling intercompany accounts and control accounts.
  • Preparing and processing journals, accruals, pre-payments and other month-end adjustments where required.
  • Maintaining the accounting records through to trial balance.
  • Capturing and reconciling bi-weekly payroll.
  • Assisting with payroll-related reconciliations and statutory requirements.
  • Assisting with VAT reconciliations and providing information required for VAT submissions.
  • Preparing schedules, supporting documentation and reconciliations for annual audits.
  • Assisting the Financial Manager with financial reporting and other month-end requirements.
  • Performing ad hoc financial and administrative functions as required.

Requirements

  • Recognised Bookkeeping Qualification
  • Minimum 3 years' proven bookkeeping experience, in a full-function bookkeeping role.
  • Proven ability to manage bookkeeping through to trial balance.
  • Strong practical experience with Xero Accounting.
  • Experience with Dext.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, including the ability to work confidently with financial data, reconciliations and spreadsheets.
  • Solid understanding of accounts payable and accounts receivable.
  • Strong bank, control account and intercompany reconciliation experience.
  • Practical experience with month-end procedures and journals.
  • Experience with payroll processing.
  • Working knowledge of South African VAT and payroll-related requirements.
  • Experience assisting with audit preparation.
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Strong analytical and organisational skills.
  • Ability to focus on tasks, prioritise effectively and work independently.
  • Ability to remain calm and composed in a high-pressure, fast-paced environment.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • High level of integrity and confidentiality, particularly when dealing with payroll and financial information.
  • Computer literate.
  • Own reliable transport.
  • Must be able to work in person at the estate.

Advantageous

  • Previous experience in the hospitality, tourism, wine or agricultural industry.
