Exports Controller

Job Purpose

We have an exciting Exports Controller position which will be resposible for taking control and ownership of our clients cargo and keeping the clients pro-actively informed of progress of the export shipment, be it by road, rail or ocean. Be proactive with clients needs and guide them of the best practice, changes in the industry and add value to their business in terms of costs, time and completeness (OTIFNE) Ensure proactivness and very high levels of communication to both clients, internal and external stakeholders.

Qualifications & Experience

Qualifiations:

• Matric.
• A relevant qualification in Freight Forwarding, Shipping, Logistics, Supply Chain Management, or International Trade will be advantageous.
• CargoWise certification and/or formal CargoWise training will be advantageous.

Experience:

• Minimum of 2 to 3 years' experience in an Export Controller, Freight Forwarding Controller, or similar operational logistics role.
• Proven experience managing end-to-end export shipments across road, rail, and ocean freight.
• Advanced working knowledge of CargoWise, including file registration, shipment management, documentation control, invoicing, reporting, and workflow management.
• Experience working with shipping line portals, customs requirements, and export documentation processes.
• Demonstrated ability to use digital technologies, automation tools, and AI-powered solutions to enhance operational efficiency and customer service. Experience in managing client relationships and resolving operational challenges in a fast-paced logistics environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Take full ownership and accountability for assigned export shipments, ensuring clients are proactively informed throughout the shipment lifecycle.
• Register and maintain shipment files within CargoWise, ensuring complete accuracy and compliance with company standards.
• Arrange cargo bookings, monitor stack dates, vessel loading schedules, ETDs, and coordinate the movement of cargo from the shipper to the port.
• Manage the complete export process from file registration through to invoicing within CargoWise, including all operational processing, amendments, and VOC-related rework where required.
• Monitor shipment progress and documentation flow to ensure all activities are completed within prescribed timelines.
• Ensure all export documentation is accurately completed, controlled, and submitted timeously to internal stakeholders, clients, authorities, and service providers.
• Ensure accurate and timely invoicing, including the recovery of all applicable costs and disbursements.
• Identify, manage, and minimize operational and commercial risks to both the company and clients by proactively addressing shipment delays, disruptions, and compliance issues.
• Stay informed of industry developments, regulatory changes, and market trends, communicating relevant impacts and opportunities to clients.
• Utilize CargoWise reporting and AI-enabled tools to improve visibility, service delivery, operational performance, and customer experience.
• Learn and effectively utilize client systems and interfaces where required.
• Build, maintain, and strengthen client relationships through regular engagement and client visits in conjunction with the Export Manager.
• Resolve invoice, account, and disbursement reconciliation queries with clients, service providers, Credit Control, and Finance teams.
• Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives by identifying opportunities to streamline processes, automate repetitive tasks, and improve service delivery through technology and AI-driven solutions.
