Operations Manager

A well established steel & aluminium manufacturing, supply & installation company, looking for an experienced Operational Manger with structural steel experience in our Durban branch

Key Responsibilities:

· Manage and oversee the overall day-to-day operations of structural steel fabrication, manufacturing, and installation activities.

· Plan, coordinate, and monitor production programmes and project schedules to ensure work is completed on time and within budget.

· Manage structural steel projects from procurement and fabrication through to delivery, site installation, and final handover.

· Supervise workshop operations, including steel cutting, drilling, fitting, welding, fabrication, blasting, painting, and finishing.

· Coordinate structural steel erection and installation activities on construction sites.

· Interpret and review engineering drawings, fabrication drawings, specifications, and bills of materials.

· Coordinate with engineers, project managers, quantity surveyors, clients, suppliers, subcontractors, and site teams.

· Monitor production output, productivity, labour utilisation, material usage, and overall operational performance.

· Manage procurement and ensure the timely availability of structural steel, plates, bolts, welding consumables, paint, and other materials.

· Monitor project costs and control labour, material, transport, equipment, and subcontractor expenses.

· Implement and maintain effective quality control and quality assurance procedures throughout fabrication and installation.

· Ensure fabricated steelwork complies with approved drawings, project specifications, quality requirements, and applicable industry standards.

· Manage and coordinate welding, fabrication, inspection, testing, and certification requirements.

· Ensure compliance with health, safety, environmental, and company policies in both workshop and site environments.

· Manage workshop personnel, supervisors, artisans, welders, fabricators, riggers, installers, and subcontractors.

· Recruit, train, supervise, and develop operational staff to improve productivity, workmanship, and safety performance.

· Coordinate the use and maintenance of fabrication machinery, welding equipment, cranes, vehicles, tools, and lifting equipment.

· Plan and coordinate the loading, transportation, delivery, and offloading of fabricated structural steel components.

· Monitor site erection activities and ensure that installation is carried out safely, efficiently, and according to approved drawings.

· Identify and resolve production, technical, logistical, quality, and site-related problems.

· Conduct regular operational and project progress meetings and provide management reports on production, costs, quality, safety, and project progress.

· Manage subcontractors and suppliers to ensure compliance with project schedules, quality standards, contractual requirements, and safety procedures.

· Maintain accurate operational documentation, including production records, inspection reports, material certificates, delivery documentation, job cards, and project handover records.

· Implement continuous improvement initiatives to increase production efficiency, reduce waste, control costs, and improve project delivery.

· Ensure effective communication between management, workshop personnel, site teams, clients, suppliers, and subcontractors.

· Take responsibility for achieving operational targets, project deadlines, quality standards, cost objectives, and customer satisfaction.
