About the Company
It is a social enterprise on a mission to end water poverty across Africa. Using solar-powered kiosks and upcycled filtration technology, we provide clean drinking water while creating jobs for youth and building community resilience.
Purpose of the Role
The Sales Assistant is responsible for the smooth daily operation of the Company Distribution Centre (DC) in Ermelo. This role ensures excellent customer service, accurate cash handling, effective stock management, and a clean, safe, branded sales environment. The Sales Assistant is the face of the company at the DC, interacting with customers, managing the shop space, and supporting operational targets.
Key Responsibilities
1. Daily Shop Operations
- Open and close the DC following the company’s SOPs.
- Ensure the store is clean, organized, and fully prepared before customer arrival.
- Keep refill stations, counters, and equipment operational at all times.
- Maintain shop hygiene, safety, and branding standards.
2. Sales & Customer Service
- Serve customers warmly, professionally, and efficiently.
- Ensure all sales (cash or card) are processed through the POS system.
- Promote the company’s products, offers, and refill services.
- Support customer enquiries and escalate complaints when necessary.
3. Cash Handling
- Count and record the daily float at opening.
- Process transactions accurately and give correct change.
- Conduct en-of-day cash-up and reconcile with POS totals.
- Secure cash in the safe and comply with all cash-handling SOPs.
4. Stock Control
- Record stock-in and stock-out daily.
- Monitor stock levels and notify the Supervisor of low stock.
- Ensure shelves, fridges, and refill stations remain fully stocked.
- Support monthly and weekly stock counts.
5. Cleanliness & Hygiene
- Clean refill stations, floors, and all customer-facing areas.
- Comply with the company’s hygiene and water safety standards.
6. Brand & Customer Experience
- Maintain a professional appearance and wear a full company uniform.
- Ensure the store environment reflects company’s values of cleanliness, quality, and community trust.
- Support local marketing activities where required.
Skills & Competencies
- Strong customer service and communication skills
- Honest, reliable and responsible
- Basic numeracy and ability to handle cash accurately
- Enterprising
- Organized, punctual, and attentive to detail
- Comfortable using a POS system (training provided)
Required Experience
- Retail or sales experience (advantageous but not mandatory)
- Experience handling cash or working with a POS system is a plus
- Must be based in Ermelo & Surrounds.
- Must be able to work Monday to Saturday full days
