**MAIN PURPOSE OF JOB**
 The Professional Nurse, in collaboration with a multi\-professional team, delivers safe, comprehensive, and quality nursing care according to their Scope of Practice regulations. They lead and coordinate nursing teams to enable optimal patient care.

**Required Education**
**ESSENTIAL EDUCATION:**
 Diploma leading to registration as a General Nurse OR
   

  

 4\-year Nursing Diploma or Bachelor of Nursing
   

  

**Desired Education**
 Postgraduate Advanced Diploma in Midwifery
   

  

 Postgraduate Diploma in Nursing (e.g. Critical Care, Emergency Care, Peri\-oprative Nursing) if place in a specialist unit

Professional Nurse - General Ward

**Registered Nurse (Labour Ward)** 

*Duties and Responsibilities*

* Provide comprehensive nursing care to patients during labour, delivery, and the immediate post\-delivery period.
* Monitor maternal and foetal wellbeing and promptly identify and escalate any deviations from normal findings.
* Assist obstetricians and other healthcare professionals during normal and assisted deliveries.
* Prepare patients and equipment for obstetric procedures and emergency interventions.
* Perform ongoing assessments and implement appropriate nursing interventions within the scope of practice.
* Administer medications and treatments safely and accurately.
* Provide emotional support and education to mothers and their families throughout the childbirth experience.
* Assist with neonatal care immediately after birth, including basic neonatal resuscitation where required.
* Maintain accurate, complete, and timely patient documentation.
* Ensure compliance with infection prevention and control standards.
* Participate in quality improvement initiatives and uphold hospital policies and professional standards.
* Collaborate effectively with the multidisciplinary healthcare team to promote optimal patient outcomes.

*Requirements*

* Grade 12
* Must be willing to work shifts as required by Units
* Adaptable and able to work effectively in a team
* Minimum of two (2\) years' experience as a Registered Nurse in a Labour Ward environment with a Private Hospital
* **Diploma or Degree in General Nursing and Midwifery.**
* Advanced Midwifery qualification (Advantageous)
* Current proof of SANC registration
