Component Fitter (Gearbox)

The Role:

The Fitter, repairs and assembles pumps according to the job cards he is issued. As an artisan, his work may include working on site at various customer premises, troubleshooting and offering solutions to customers together with the sales engineer.

He works closely with the Workshop Manager and the team to ensure that customers receive their pumps timeously and to the quality specified.

Stripping

Take apart each pump as it is assigned, to diagnose what repairs are required. Ensure that the repair is viable and if not, advise the Workshop Manager / Foreman and report any findings.

Assembling

Assemble the pump as per the drawing specs, if a problem arises then the workshop foreman needs to be notified.

Fault finding

Ensure detection of any faults as early as possible, to improve quality of all work and report finding immediately.

Quality

All repairs and builds are to be done with “built to last” in mind.

Site Work and Call Outs

When on site, always remember that you are a representative of Southern Pumps and conduct yourself accordingly. Follow the orders of the manager/ foreman as required.

Correct PPE and SPSA attire to be worn.

Site vehicle to be kept clean and logbook to be completed.

Health and Safety

Ensure compliance to all health and safety regulations whether on site or at the factory.

Report any health and safety concerns and hazards to the Workshop Manager. Also report any accidents, no matter how small, to the Health and Safety Officer or Workshop Manager.

Housekeeping

Ensure that your work bench/ workstation and toolbox is kept neat and clean as you work. Tidy up at the end of each day, both at your workstation and the broader workshop.

Dispose of all waste properly, following the guidelines for hazardous substances.

Return any power tools to the storeroom and sign the logbook accordingly.

Ensure that you use consumables sparingly and therefore make savings by reducing workshop waste.

We are looking for a **Qualified Diesel/Trailer Mechanic** with proven experience in servicing and maintaining heavy\-duty trailers with different axle configurations.

**Key Requirements**

* **Red Seal Certification** (proof must be supplied)
* Experience in servicing and maintenance of **heavy\-duty trailers**
* Ability to complete job cards electronically using a **TIMA device**
* Mandatory training completed at **JOST, BPW \& WABCO**
* Valid South African ID and driver’s license (Code 14 license will be an advantage)
* Willingness to travel to other depots for services and breakdowns
* Flexibility to work overtime (paid according to **MIBCO specifications**)

**Position outputs**


* Carry out auto electrical and electronic repairs and maintenance on Earthmoving Equipment in workshop, customer sites or field service.


* Trouble shoot, Analyse and find root cause failures on electric and electronic components. Remove, repair and install auto electrical and electronic components.


* Upgrade system files and do download on electronic systems.
* Install, calibrate and test support systems on machines.


* Quickly and efficiently, deal with all customer’s auto electrical breakdowns.
* Do non\-electrical and air\-conditioning maintenance and repairs on Earthmoving machines.


* Compile accurate customer service reports.
* Transfer knowledge to colleagues.
* Comply with Company and customer safe work practices.
* Maintain professional image when representing BWE on customer site.
* Effective self\-management and performance ownership.
* Comply with Contamination Control requirements.
* Control own admin (labour booking, service reports, part returns, expenses etc.).


**Qualification, Experience and Competencies**

* Matric or equivalent
* Qualified in relevant trade (Auto Electrician) – “Red Seal”
* Minimum 5 years post qualification experience on electric and electronic systems on Caterpillar machines
* Good troubleshooting and problem\-solving skills on electrical and electronic systems
* Caterpillar machine specific technical knowledge and skills.
* Good understanding off Caterpillar electrical and electronic systems
* Experience on air conditioning maintenance and repairs.
* Applicable attachments product operation knowledge.
* Knowledge and / or exposure to ISO quality systems.
* Good technical report writing skills.
* Good Computer Literacy (SIS, STW \& ET) knowledge.
* Drivers licence – Code B.

* Standing as supervisor or as team leader on several occasions or being a service planner for at least 2 years
* Knowledge of the planning function.
* Computer literate
* Supervisory knowledge will be advantageous.

**ROLE PURPOSE**  

  

Exceptional Generator Service Technician skill to deliver the most efficient, highest quality customer experiences in Critical Generators repair, installation, servicing and preventative maintenance, and any other aspects of both statics and mobile generators.  

  

**MAIN OUTPUTS**  

* Completing preventative maintenance and/or basic repair activities on generators or components at the customer site with minimal direction.
* Attend to Generator Investigations for failed units
* Performing preventative maintenance activities as per documented schedules and standards on power generation products in the field.
* Perform ongoing preventive and repair work on electrical and other installed systems, equipment, and other components.
* Maintain, operate, and repair all supported generators (static, mobile) and associated equipment.
* Perform assigned facility inspections and due diligence efforts, reporting on conditions impacting satisfactory client requirements.
* Respond effectively to all emergencies related to machineries.
* Prepare and submit to management service and summary reports listing conditions found in the performance of assigned work and recommend and/or suggest action to be taken.
* Study and become familiar with the various items of equipment, and the methods required to use them properly, that are required in everyday activities.
* Comply with all SHEQ procedures, maintaining good housekeeping and safety of work areas.
* Recognize danger and safety hazards and propose methods to eliminate them.
* Willing and able to support any afterhours work related activities as required.

* N4/N5 or Diesel Mechanic
* Wireman’s license will be an advantage. (IE)

* 3\-5 years of Generator maintenance experience with a clear understanding of all components relevant to Generator systems. (including controllers).
* Excellent knowledge of Field Operations routine procedures and processes.
* Knowledge of various power components and systems is an advantage (rectifiers, generators, batteries etc.)
* Technician hand tools
* Trouble\-shooting skills with ability to think outside of the box.
* Working electrical knowledge, including the use of tools and test equipment
* Flexibility to work overtime.
* Ability to use a computer for digital reporting and internal processes.
